Arrival Story:
It was time for our own dog since we were about to be married so we went out looking for him. After looking at several places where we could adopt and not finding "the right one" yet... Jake finally found us through a rescue in Sacramento. It wasn't the best rescue place... in fact his mom was boarded in the kennel with him since his previous guardian was in jail. Not seeing that special one yet, I stooped down to let the dogs come closer to me (they were all in a big yard together) and out of nowhere, I feel the tap of a dogs paw over the back of my head. I turn around and there was big, beautiful Jake! And I knew right then and there that "he was the one!!" They said Jake was a "grain eater" and had to give him up...whatever that means. Anyways, it's true, he really prefers grains and veggies over meat. Kinda picky eater actually... which is good. He also was very skinny and in overall poor condition. A year later, after moving to Texas he was tested Heartworm positive... apparently contracted it in California where they were not testing at the time (they are now!). We immediately had him treated with no adverse reactions. Since then his appetite has improved and he looks great now as you can see in his photos!

Bio:
Jake is the calmest dog I've ever had the pleasure of being with. He is what you'd call your "ideal" dog - handsome, smart, intuitive, sensitive, gentle & humorous. He gets along with everyone he has met...everyone loves Jake and Jake loves everyone. He loves birds, cats, other dogs, he even allowed a hummingbird the error of misinterpreting the "feeding spot", his nostril, and never so much as flinched! He enjoys just being an observer of people and wildlife. He's flown in a plane by himself all the way from Sacramento, CA to Dallas, Texas. Lived in Texas, Colorado, Illinois and California. He has been my faithful companion for 12 years and is still very youthful. He has had a wonderful life with us... lots of hiking and camping and now he's retiring in style in his very own Travel Trailer. You could not ask for more in a 4-legged companion except for many many more years together with him!

Forums Motto:
Handsome, smart, intuitive & sensitive.

If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
Then you are probably the family dog.
