Paw-tastic.

Well, this is simply paw-tastic. I sliced my paw in the backyard on Monday, and was taking fine care of it myself, when all of a sudden I got dragged off to the V-E-T. They poked at it, took me away from my mom, and then made me sleep for a while. When I woke up, my poor paw was really sore (I think there are threads in it) and there was a gaint bandage on it. Now my mom changes the bandage every day and won't let me lick my paw. AND I have to wear a bag over it when I go outside so it doesn't get wet - how embaressing!

I've Been Tagged!

Tag - you're it! Or so some of my pals said. Alright, but what does that mean?

Here are the rules:
Each player starts with seven facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 Pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag & list their names. Don't forget to P-mail that they have been tagged & to read your Diary. Or send them a fun rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

Okay, so here are some pawsome facts about me:

1. I LOVE to learn new tricks! And I know everyone's favorite, so if they have a tasy tidbit, I can usually weasle it off of them in one quick trick. Humans are so easy!

2. I enjoy playing fetch with my people - if no one's looking, I'll push one of my toys down the basement steps and then make funny noises until someone goes downstairs and gets it for me. If they see me about to do it, I'll just sit at the top of the stairs innocently and chew on it until they turn their back. bol!

3. I can make several dozen noises, and I do a great wookie impression. I can always surprise my people with a new sound if I want something!

4. Max may drool for apples and bananas, but I confess to having a major sweet tooth. I'll take whipped cream or toast over steak any day, and Pop Tarts have to be one of the best inventions ever.

5. My mom works at a barkery, so sometimes I get to go to work with her!

6. When my mom gets the nail clippers out, I sit in front of her and give her my paws one at a time. It's like getting treats for nothing!

7. I LOVE to hunt! My mom doesn't let me off to chase squirrels anymore now that I've caught a few (yum!), and mice and voles are too easy so I mostly ignore them now. I used to hunt ants, but one bit me and got stuck on my tounge. My daddy had to use pliers to get it out - I don't do that anymore.

The Dog Days of Summer - Days All About Me

It may be hot, humid, and icky outside, but my girl's home all the time and we get to do lots of fun things together. Sometimes we just sit around and she stares at one of those books, but I'm just happy to be near here. Other times we get to play outside, go for walks, and learn new tricks (I'm working on "take it," "spin," and "crawl" right now!), though as soon as I get nice and smelly in the woods, she gives me a bath! Eww!

I'm getting nervous, though - she keeps warning me that she's going to have to leave for College in the fall. This is NOT a good thing. Her brother (my uncle?) left for College and he didn't come back for MONTHS! I love my "grandma and pa" a lot, but do they honestly think I'm going to put up with Mom being gone that long? Huh, not likely!

I guess I'll just have to enjoy what time I have now, but if I haven't been updating my page lately, it's so I can savor the rest of the summer with my mom. Wags and licks to all my pals, new and old!

Long Time, No Sniff!

Hey, ya'll! So sorry for my sudden departure from dogster-dom. My secretary has been bogged down with end of the year school things, so I thought I'd give her a break. It's been too long, though, and it feels great to be back!

Sincere apologies for anyone who offered to be my pup pal way back when, when I was Dog of the Week, and still has not heard from me. I was so excited, I wanted to answer each one personally, not just click the yes button. Unfortunately, I need my typist for that. I double-dog promise that I'll get to you soon, and please don't think I've deliberately put them off to irk anyone! I'd love to be friends with you all!

I have so many mails to bark back to my tail just can't stop wagging! My secretary should be more reliable from now on....

Wags and licks to all!

Thank you, Dogster, this has really made my week! Thanks also to all of you who have left me bones, rosettes, or pup pal requests! Aw, it really makes a gal feel wanted. (Sorry, but please be patient for responses because my mom's been really busy with schoolwork lately, and she's the one with the opposable thumbs - it's hard to type with paws.)

Thank you! Licks and wags to all!

Please Take the Time to Read This

Hi! This is Annie's "mom" speaking - err, typing - for a moment. Thanks go to Annie for letting me share her diary!

Anyway...

I volunteer at a local non-profit shelter called the West Suburban Humane Society (www.wshs-dg.org). Our biggest fundraiser, Barkapalooza (www.barkapalooza.org), is coming up on September 25th, and we're trying to raise money to help all of the homeless animals in our care.

Our volunteers give these great dogs and cats love, attention, and clean cages, but without donations from other animal lovers, they would not have the food, toys and beds they need. We are also trying to raise enough money to build a new facility to replace our aging one (which both the animals and the volunteers would really appreciate!).

If you are interested in helping our cause, please consider leaving a donation of any amount at www.geocities.com/WSHS_Hugo/Donations.html (this will lead you to a PayPal link - I wasn't sure how to put it directly in Annie's diary), however I have been told that you do not need a PayPal account to make a donation. Every little bit helps more than you can realize.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and maybe leave a little gift for the animals!

www.geocities.com/WSHS_Hugo/Donations.html

P.S.: If you do leave a donation and would like specific recognition, please drop me a message with your name and how much you donated; otherwise all the donations will all be "lumped" into one with recognition going to all the wonderful people at Dogster.

I'm a Good Girl!

My mom says that I've been a really good girl lately. I went up and sniffed one of the neighbor's dogs and actually wagged my tail, which is really good because usually I'm so scared of other dogs that I try to hurt them before they can hurt me. Even when a big Golden puppy came hurtling toward me I just snarled a little and when it backed off I let it go.

I don't really care if I'm good or not... but if my mom thinks I'm good, it means I get treats, and since I'm on a bit of diet right now (geez, mom, it's just six pounds...) I'm all for that.

Let's hope I can be good again soon!

Mom had this "great" idea of letting Max and I pull our dog food home from the store a couple of blocks away.

Yeah, right. Like I'm going to wear that stupid harness and drag that rattling thing behind me. Guess what, Mom? That's what CARS are for. That's what PARENTS are for.

But Max seemed to be enjoying himself a little bit too much. I watched from afar as he dragged it around happyily, wagging that furry tail of his, and then actually get IN the darn thing as Mom pulled it. My poor brother... not blessed with the same brains as me, I'd have to say.

All the same, for as long as he's happy doing it, I don't have to, so pull on, Max!

Tweet-tweets

Mommy's very sad today. One of her tweet-tweets (I think she calls them "pair-a-keets") had to go to the vet last night and went somewhere from there. I think she called it "Rainbow Bridge," or something like that. I wonder if I'll ever get to visit it? I don't know if I want to, because it's making mommy so sad, and that makes me sad, too.

Rest in peace, little Willow!

Someone Teach the Rain to Come

When will the rain come, to cool us all down? The ground's all hard and the plants can't grow. Someone, please, teach the rain to come and call it down from the heavens, so that it will rush around my paws and wet the ground and let the plants grow tall.

Come, rain, come on down...
