My Tail of Devotion for Lucy

Nine years ago I lost a dog named Tessa. She was a maltese cross and was a dear and loving friend. Afterward I knew I was going to get another dog.
I decided to get Lucy as I had heard papillons were intelligent and active dogs. Dear Tessa, she wasn't exactly Einstein and she lived to eat and sleep! A great little dog to have around the house, but it was a chore to get her to go for a walk more than 20 feet from the door!
Well, Lucy came with her own set of instructions. She was totally different from Tessa. Tessa loved everyone and everything. Lucy didn't trust her own shadow wouldn't jump up and try to hurt her.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do. She would barely let me near her she was so shy. I thought I should take her back to the breeder. I never had any experience with a shy dog before. However, I feared that the breeder may fob her off on somebody else and she'd end up in an animal shelter or worse.
I was very lucky. I found a great vet and a greater trainer. Both worked with me to bring Lucy out of her shell. There was one great thing about Lucy from the beginning. She's extremely curious and cannot help but wonder what is going on. We exploited that trait and Lucy found out that life was fun and people weren't so bad afterall.
As she got more mature, she discovered life was much better lived when she was happy and having fun. She has become a delight to be around. I can take her anywhere. She even tolerates babies and toddlers, although she hates the evil baby gate.

This is a special Tail of Devotion
