Scruffy to celebrate his third year with us...2/17/09

We adopted Scruffy almost three years ago already!! Time flies by when having a good time with your wonderful dog!!! Scruffy was about two years old when we adopted him as the vet stated he had all his adult teeth and that's generally around two years. Scruffy could be older but with the energy Scruffy has, I 'm sure it's pretty darn close. So that would place Scruffy around five years of age.

We're not sure how we are going to celebrate his birthday this year. I know I'll get Scruffy some Frosty Paws and a gift, of course a nice walk, but other than that we're not sure. The first year he got a really nice red hiking pack. This Christmas Scruffy got a lovely jacket which I really need to get a picture of him wearing. The weather has warmed up quite a bit so it's almost too warm for the jacket. Hopefully between today and Valentine's Day, I'll come up with something special for Scruff!!

Happy Birthday a little early Scruffy!!!

Love,

MOM

Not sure if I already typed something similar on this Dogster site, but if not, here goes. Scruffy was adopted into our family on Feb. 17, 2006 and it's now 2008. We have been exceptionally pleased with his personality and nature. He is quite the dog! The children have grown so attached to him that my son refers to him as "BROTHER" at times. Cute huh?

Scruffy celebrated his birthday with a bath, yes, a bath to get him sparkling clean and fresh. Than we treated him to a cup of Frosty Paws. He received a bone and new toy. We had plans to go for a hike which would have really pleased Scruffy but ended up doing something else. The weather has not been too cooperative. I do plan to make this up to Scruffy and hope to capture some great pictures which I can post on this page. My daughter took the one of Scruffy with the confetti in his hair/on his head. Too cute!!! Very colorful!!

Happy Birthday My Wonderful Four Legged Friend!!!!

July 31st marked the passing of my first Dogster's Pup Pal,- DAISY

I'm sadden to hear of the loss of a wonderful pal, Daisy, to the horrible disease CANCER. I too have had my fight with it this year. My owner's had a tumor the size of a pea removed from my front right leg this past Dec. 2006 and I am proud to say, I am CANCER FREE to this day. Daisy however had a much more serious bout with the disease. I can't even spell the name yet alone pronounce it......let's just say it was nasty! I am so sorry for the short time Daisy had with her beloved owners but they gave their hearts and souls to making her happy and the exchange with mutual. I do not want to go on and on with my feelings as I know that life is unpredictable at times. I count my blessings with my beloved family who stoled my heart on Feb. 17, 2006. What I think I am trying to say is...."I am so sorry for Daisy's passing but do know she's out of pain." She is on the road to Rainbow Bridge.

I pray that the grief of her family is breif but heartfelt. There are dogs and there are DOGS. Daisy sounded to me that she was in the class of a DOG DOG.

Daisy, you will be missed!

Feb. 17th will mark the ONE year anniversary of my adoption

This coming Feb. 17th, I will have lived with my new owners for one year. And, of course it's a forever home. I love my new family and more importantly they love me. My mom rescued me on a rainy day last year...literally pouring cats and dogs!!! Since than I've had to have one surgery and that was just recently. I had a tumor removed from my right, front leg. Thankfully I'm young so I healed really quick and am back to my vigerous self. I love to play and run so my leg healing quickly and properly was a huge concern for my mom. But we trust in the Lord and He provides.

I am celebrating with a Doggie Cake on the 17th.....and lots of hugs and kisses. The kids will probably have cupcakes baked with my face painted on top. Mom might even try her best to bake me some doggie biscuits as her sister has the mold and recipe. I'm sure it will be filled with love. I already got my present in the mail, it's a red doggie pack and I've used it twice. Not sure how much weight I can properly handle so will wait until we talk to the vet later this month as I have a follow-up appt.

Definitely check out my newer pictures as my mother tries to update them very few months. I may even convince my dad that I need upgraded to DogsterPlus. We shall see....that's my mom's motto! My motto is....RUN, Chew, and LOVE ME!!!!

Scruffy scheduled for surgery for tumor removal on Dec. 7th.- Prayers please!

Noticed a small lump on Scruffy's front right mid leg. Immediately thought it was a tumor as it was underneath and moves when you touch with your fingers. Scruffy doesn't like it being touched, hence it is painful. Had a needle biopsy done this morning and the vet didn't say the tumor was cancerous but didn't say it wasn't either. Will do another, more intense biopsy on the actual tumor once it is removed. So Scruffy is scheduled for surgery a week from today. He'll have to wear a plastic cone for ten days until they remove the stitches. Oh great! He's not gonna like this!!! I'm being totally optimistic and believing that this tumor is beign. The doctor preforming the surgery will be calling tomorrow with more information and to go over the procedure in more detail. This is my time for serious questions to be asked, so should have a list ready for tomorrow. I'm believing that if the tumor is cancerous, that the vet will be able to remove all of the cancer in just this one tumor and that it has not spread. The bloodwork should be in tomorrow, today was only cytology reading of the fluid aspirated from the mass and needle biopsy.

Scruffy is happy, eating, drinking and playful as ever! We all have had weird lumps, bumps, and rashes. Let's pray he is cancer free. God placed Scruffy in my care and I'm praying that HE, God will not have placed the added stress in my life....unless it's to teach me something. Do know we will do everything needed to keep Scruffy happy, healthy and comfortable in his life with us Butlers.

We love you Scruff Puff!

Barks In The Park

Tomorrow, Saturday, is the annual downtown "Barks in the Park." This will be my first year and we (owner and I) don't quite know what to expect other than it's for dogs and will be crowded. We plan to arrive early as the website states the parking is limited. The event is all about dogs, their abilities....working as Police Dogs, Working Dogs, Agility, Herding and other tasks. There will be a costume contest, a pet and owner "Look A Like" contest, and agility contest. Of course their will be booths and booths of products for sell and information of various classes and health issues. One must pay a five dollar entry fee and keep their dog leashed at all times. I hope that Scruffy will behave and plan to stay only for an hour or two. I will carry his doggie bags with us....and some water but plan on buying him a bone or two there. I have already bathed him for this event tomorrow. No scratching please!!! Scruffy is on ADVANTAGE and has been good about flea control. Will be interesting to see how this goes.

Will post any pictures if I'm able to get some....and will most definitely post notes if we do attend. Children have a way of getting into my dog plans from time to time. This day is for Scruffy and I.

It's only a few days before the human kids go back to school. Than Mom and I will have time for long walks together. Probably more brushing and grooming of me as well. Will be sad to see the kids gone most of the day, they are fun to play with, especially the little boy as he's an easy target. Just sad to the see the water fun slow or even come to a stop. We'll have next summer and maybe Mom will even venture out with me during the Indian Summer days. We shall see....In the meantime, I do have a cup of Frosty Paws in the freezer and look forward to having that this weekend.

Best wishes for success in school my dear human family members and friends!!!

I'm so excited as I just received news that one of the groups I belong to on Dogster, is having their first party!!! WOOF!!!! That's howling good news huh? I just had a bath and will be given my Advantage Flea Treatment on the 17th, the party is the 18th..... so my coat/fur is fresh and fine, but what to wear???? There's always my red bandana or a special collar. Maybe I'll get something new!!! Mom likes to shop for us pets. I do know my owner will brush my coat and hopefully my teeth as well...as they can get kind of smelly. Wonder if I'm suppose to bring something???? The message didn't say so but I could always share some of my Doggie Ice Cream Cups with the other dogs, or maybe not. I'll think about it. I'm so thrilled.....don't know what to expect but do have something to look forward too. HOWLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

My Tail of Devotion for Scruffy

After the loss of both our family dogs, Maggie ,15 years of age, and than Sport News, 16 years of age, we decided after a year of grieving to look again. For Valentine's Day my husband didn't know what to get me so I suggested that it might be time for a new family dog. We don't like to get pets on holidays (stressful on all) so we just looked. I saw Scruffy at the San Martin Humane Shelter, here in beautiful California a day or two after Valentine's. He, Scruffy was adorable! But he needed to be screen by the whole family and not selected on impulse. I returned the next day with the family and all loved him but they were not set in stone like myself. After much praying, I had a very sleepless night and knew I was being told to rescue Scruffy the next day. So, on the third visit with just my young son, Zachary, we adopted Scruffy. I think it's important to note that it was literally raining CATS and DOGS to speak. The staff of the shelter knew when I stepped through the door that Scruffy had a home. No one in their right mind would travel in rain like this..and with a young boy to boot. Must be pure love and desire is all anyone could think.

Scruffy has been with us for six months now and he rules the household. He's healthy, happy and a fantastic friend to me and my family. So when you see his name, Scruffy "Heart" Butler, you'll understand the reason for the middle name. Scruffy, your the best Valentine's Day gift ever...and not fattening either.

Love you,

Mom (Diane B.)
