Likes:
Loves to be petted, loves attention. To snatch a piece of paper, run off with it and eat it, eat branches, lick dishes in dishwasher. Play Fetch. And to pick up anything off the ground and eat it! She loves water.

Pet-Peeves:
She hates to be ignored, takes umbrage when you grab her collar to restrain her, and shows her desire NOT to do what you want by balking.

Favorite Toy:
She loves her squeaky ball.

Nutro Natural Choice wet food in the little bags.

In the 'hood.

Nikki shakes hands and rolls over.

Arrival Story:
I got Nikki from some family members who decided to breed their female Golden, Holly. I know, it's better to buy a purebred dog from a breeder, but I liked Holly; she is very sweet. Holly had 11 puppies, and her parents urged me to come and pick out a puppy very soon, as they could go fast. So I had to visit when they were only 3 weeks old, which sure doesn't give you a chance to figure out their personalities. I spent about an hour with the puppies; frankly, I just couldn't choose. It makes it difficult when you're really only able to choose them by their color! I knew I wanted a female and a fairly light one, but it was tough. The lightest female was already taken. Then I saw the runt of the litter. She was cute and light colored, but I wasn't sure. Finally, when I picked her up, she licked my chin. I took that as a sign and chose her. She is no longer the runt; she now weighs 75 lbs. and I expect that she'll grow to be about 80 lbs. Nikki is my first dog, as I've always had cats. Talk about culture shock!!

Bio:
Nikki was born 4/11/05. Even though I had taken her to three training classes, Nikki was a handful, especially since she turned out to be a rather large female (but ... wait ... she had been the runt!) But the biggest problem was that I was a novice dog parent. She thought she was the alpha of the pack until I figured out how to get across to her that I'm the alpha. I did my research, figured it out, and got results very quickly. Now that she's accepted that I'm the "leader of the pack," she is such a joy to be around! Nikki was always a sweetie and now she's even more so. I just love it when she leans on me and puts her head on my knee. Just adorable! Nikki loves people, children and dogs, but she feels more comfortable around strangers than new dogs. She does her Golden Lean bit to anyone and everyone. People love to pet her too, and invariably exclaim how soft her fur is. She's a joy to pet.

Bad Mommy!

My mommy has been bad. I've been begging to go on Dogster for ages now and she keeps telling me to wait. That she's so busy rescuing poor unfortunate doggies that she hasn't a moment to log me in.

But today, I used a different ploy. I gave her my paw. Then I put my head on her knee and looked up at her, using my Big Eyes technique.

I guess it worked, coz here I am! So now I get to say howdy to all my Dogster pals!

Hey, did you notice the chill in the air? Fall has arrived in Southern California! This is when I like to play and wrastle with Parker the most. And I kicked some booty tonight, I tell you! Hah!

Well, write and tell me what you've all been up to. I haven't been up to much but Mom sure has with all those dogs she's rescued.

She belongs to a volunteer group based in So. CA called Critters in Need Pet Rescue. Last year, they re-homed over 200 dogs. And they're sure gonna surpass that this year.

Thank you for your support. Congo's Law will benefit all pet owners, and protect us from this happening again, so please keep calling the gov and call Neil Cohen to approve his proposed bill.
