Yesterday when the house call vet was here to give us our shots she heard a small heart murmur in me.
She told Mom this comes with age. Just like the faint cloudiness in my right eye.
Mom got some meds from her to help with my heart. Mom usually likes to do some research on this kind of stuff but yesterday she went ahead and got the meds.
Anyone have any experience with a doggie with a heart murmur?
The meds Mom got are called Enalapril Maleate. Later she found that they are used for high blood pressure. Of course, the vet didn't take my blood pressure. Maybe I should start laying off the salty potato chips. huh, huh, huh.
Anyone have any info we should know about? The one thing about this vet, she never talks about blood work or any other kinds of tests. Mom is wondering if she shouldn't take me to another vet.
And on another note, Mom had to patch me up this morning. The last fight Tommy and I had, I got a tear on my right shoulder. Pop patched it up. It was doing fine. This morning some how I managed to open it up again. Mom isn't much of a nurse but she tried. Now I am sporting a big band aid globbed up with anti-biotic ointment and some stretchy bandage to keep it all in place.
don't know about a murmur or the meds, but I have had blood work and a urine test too, it was for my senior wellness test.
Enalapril Maleate is an ACE inhibator used for high blood pressure. I would get a second opinion on this path of treatment. If Drover needs it,It is one of the 4 dollar scripts at Walmart. Here in Ohio vets are not required to write scripts so you can get meds elsewhere. Some around here would charge 5 bucks a pill.
I'm such a smart Schnauzer Girl!!!
Oh, deer, Dwober. Momma an' me kno' nuffin 'bout dis stuff, bud Sophie sounds pwetty knowedgable 'bout it. Finkin' 'bout yu an' hopin' yu be feelin' 100% 'gain soon ♥
Sophie! You never told us you knew about medical stuff.
Mom does think she will contact another vet. The house call vet is fine for giving shots, but not much else. :-/
Really, pups, I am feeling fine. Very perky and playful!
I am good to go!
I dunno know about heart murmurs, but I hopes you are ok!
Mum's niece has a Dobby with a heart murmur. We know he is on medicine and he gets a MRI or something every year to keep tabs on it. If I were you I would see another vet.
Thanks Pals, Mom does think she will take me to another vet, after another payday. :-0
But I really am feeling fine. I am relaxed and my old self after Tommy went away.
My vet doesn't order a lot of tests, but if he suspects a heart murmur I know he does blood work and urinalysis and possibly even a chest x-ray before prescribing any meds. I will keep my paws crossed for you. Let us know when you get your second opinion.
Hopefully your stress level is down now without Tommy. Are you sure it wasn't Tux's mad growl at the vet she heard? Or could it be her hearing went when Zoe was shot?
Hope you are fine when another vet checks you pal! You will be in our thoughts sweet guy.
I agree, another opinion is needed!
Oh Drover! Mummy and I hope you're ok! Are you sure they didn't make a wrong diagnosis with Zoe being shot and all? When Mommy takes you to another vet (after payday, like when I go!) you'll be fine! I'm glad Tommy isn't mean to you anymore cos it's not fair. And I'm sure he's fine where he is now.
We love you Drover, and are so glad you are feeling okay, but we too, think you should get a 2nd opinion, just to reassure your momma and us all!
*Drover pulls a handkerchief out of his secret pocket and noisily blows his nose*
You Pups, please stop! You are making me all choked up with emotion. Or as Zaidie would say, "I'm all berklempt" or something.
Thank you for caring.
Ackuawwy, Dwober, I wood say,"berkwempt", bud yu r cwose!
O.M.D. An' here I wuz finkin' I wuz da onwy guy-pup wif a secwet pocket :D Yurs hab a MEATZ™ fweezer in it, tu???
An' I agwee wif eberypup an' peeple - ged a secund 'pinyun. Harts r WAY 'portant ♥
It was late Zaidie, I should have checked the HandyDandyLWD Spell Check.
My secret pocket is the economy size. I only carry the basics. Some throat lozenges, Chapstick, a wallet-size picture of Mom, an emergency sewing kit and a few other things.
I agree with everyone else...get a second opinion! I think at least some blood work should be ran. Last year Momma's Dr said she heard a a heart murmur on her and right away wanted her to have test done, and I think us pups are just as important as people!
BOLBOLBOLBOLBOL, Dwober!!! O.M.D. Yu made Momma waff OUT WOUD! Dis r H-U-G-E nues! Awert da media :D
"Some throat lozenges, Chapstick, a wallet-size photo of Mom, an emergency sewing kit..." B.O.L.!!!
I'm sure you're just fine, Drover, even if your heart does murmur a bit. But, I also think it's time to see a real vet with a real office. A mobile vet is fine fur shots and furst aid, but sometimes a little more is needed.
:: looking fur a pocket :: MOM!!!!!
Mom got my sewing kit for me for Christmas last year. It is monogrammed. :-)
ROTFBMAO!!! Dis r why da wadies wuff yu, Dwober! Yu r one smooth dood :D
Drover! You're like a Dog Scout! Mummy was in the Girl Guides when she was younger and she had to have an emergency tin can with a needle & thread, change to make a phone call (she's ancient! No mobiles in her day!), matches and other important stuff like that. The Girl Guides or Boy Scouts didn't think of chap sticks, photos of Mummies and Daddies and throat lozenges! You should go into Boy Scout consultancy! You are so clever!
yeah we thinks you need a new vet, one that will give you copies of all your blood work and discuss/explain it all to your pawrents. they are our employees after all (we pay them).
