Arrival Story:
When he was 11 weeks old, the owners daughter brought him in to our vet hopsital. He had been a gift to her mom, who simply put him in her backyard and he got out, got hit by a car. He had serious breaks in his hips and leg, after the initial x-rays owner decided to put down. Vet knew I had been looking for a puppy with special needs, since puppies are easiest to adopt I wanted to help one who may have not been adoptable, she asked the owner to surrender the dog, arranged for surgeon to do surgery for free and as soon as I walked in to work that day, she said.. "Here you like a dog?" The rest as the say... is history... :)

Bio:
I have been working with dogs over 25 years in just about any capasity, however I had never encountered a Korean Jindo, at first the vet warned me he would wither be a Shiba Inu or Jindo and showed me a page on Jindos, I was slightly concerned at first but how could I say no? So I took little Jindo home who turned out to be the best and wackiest dog I have ever had, to increase my level of insanity and because they are so hard to place, I adopted a second Jindo about a year later. There are the only dog in Korea that will not be used for food or clothing (Yuk, I know) in times of war, they are incredibly respected by the Korean people.

My Tail of Devotion for Zen

When I first rescued Zen from being Euthanized, the enormity of this act would not hit me until years later. I have rescued many dogs from shelters and other situations. This puppy was special, I just didn't know how much until one day I simply collapsed, thankfully I was at home, as I regained conciouslness there he was..my boy... I had never seen a dog THAT worried, the look in his face said it all. His little paw on my chest, he was licking my lips trying to revive me and when I finally came to, he calmed down and laid right next to me. I realized then that Zen has the amazing capability to tell when I am about to have and Multiple Sclerosis collapse. Today, he can tell the minute I walk in the door, took me a minute because he always gets very excited to see me but this time, it was different, he would not leave me alone, gently grabbing my hand to get my attention, I dont know why but I said.... OK OK I will sit down! So I did.. within a few seconds my world started to spin and I laid back, I am unsure as to how long I had been out but something is certain, my faithful guardian and my doctor dog, as we call him was laying besides me, he had fallen asleep but he had made sure that his paw was on top of me and that his nose was right enfront of mine, in case I stopped breathing. I know my life was not truly in danger but had it been, I know Zen would have done anything in his power to get me help.

Now if I cough or gasp a little in the middle of the night, his head turns a looks at me with this incredibly intense look, I am usually okay so we have gotten used to the "I am ok" signal but for those times when I can't even tell I am not okay, I have Zen. I save his life once, he has save my life many times, I am nothing with out the love and support of my beloved dogs.
