What a day!

It's official, I am going on a trip!

Mama is taking me to P.E.I. to see the vet dermatologist! Right now we are playing this up as a FUN and EXCITING adventure, even though when I get there, I have to have a 3 hour vet appointment (they are kinda glossing over that point, I feel). This is a big deal, because there are very few vet dermatologists in Canada so we have to go on an airplane in October to see the one at the vet college in PEI. Mama and Mommy are really hoping that the vet can figure out my allergies so we can do something about them! Right now I've got really sparse hair on my side because of my scratching, and I am on 5 mgs of prednisone a day, plus omega 3 fatty acids in my food, and no human foods.

I wonder will the plane be scary? Last time I was on one I was only 8 weeks old, so I don't remember it. Maybe nice Dr. Marshall can give me some gravol so I don't urka-gurka all over da plane.

Mommy is sad cause she can't go with Mama and me to PEI. It would be too expensive for her to go and besides, if she went then we would have to bring Izzy, cause Izzy might be confused and scared if we all left. And two dogs on a plane is a lot of stress and work. So Mommy will stay home with Izzy. Although Mommy is worried about that too, as me and Izzy have never spent a night apart, and she wonders how Izzy will be with that. Sigh, lots of decisions to make, cause of my stoopid allergies.

When we get closer to the date, we will contact the breeder where Mommy and Mama got me and Izzy, as they live in PEI, and hopefully Mama can take me over for a visit so I can meet my furdad and furmom! That is one bonus, at least, for this trip!

love always,
Rudy

Aw poor Mommy. I know she's worried, but you'll be ok with your Mama, and Izzy will be ok with your Mommy, and then when you all get home it will be so exciting to see each other!! I hope they figure out your allergy problems, sweet Rudy Roo.

A trip! How cool!
And on a plane!
Hopefully you'll be able to find some answers.
I'm sure Izzy will be ok. Just make sure you bring her something from your travels!

I think your Mommas are doing the very best thing for you-- I got allergy skin tested and have been on shot therapy for about a year and a half. No more steroids and I am lots better (I was scratchin' myself bloody on one side). Sometimes I takes a half a regular Claratin twice a day, but I don't get yeasty ears all the time anymore and I am just so much better. The testing don't hurt cuz they gives ya drugs to make ya kinda sleepy without knocking ya all the way out. Lotsa hugs and good thoughts that the dermatologists can help you the way they help me...

ooh, Finley, I din't know you were allergy tested too. We should start an allergy group or sumthin, compare notes. The Z-pup could join too. I have also made myself bleed, and it just makes Mommy nuts, because she's so worried. October can't come soon enough!

I sure hope that your issues can be figured out and hence resolved, too.
Growlmy sure is glad that I don't have skin troubles, because me fur is so sparse in some ares, I would be like raw meat...did someone say MEATZ™?
You will feel so much more comfortable when your allergies are under control!

Hope all the allergy testing helps and you can get your allergies fixed up so they don't bother you so much. I'm lucky and don't have them, but they don't look like any fun.

Momma makes me wear little jackets she makes or tshirts when my allergies are acting up so I don't scratch my side to pieces.... she doesn't want me on some of the meds cuz of the side effects... Some of them suppress the immune system. So it's allergy shots, twice a week baths, and clothes instead. And it is helping me, quite a bit.
The skin testing didn't bother me, but when the reactions started popping up from the needle sticks ( looked like angry mosquito bites), then Momma started feelin' woozy!! BOL!BOL!!
The vet rubbed some cortisone cream on 'em after checkin' them and they went right down again... silly Momma!!
I might have to be on the shots long term, but the cost isn't too bad. Twice a month shots, about $32 a month, and no bad side effects. Momma even learned to give me the shots and she never thought she could. I come right to her when she says "shot time"-- cuz she always gives me a treat afterwards ( and cuz I ain't stoopid, they make me feel better!)
If ya got any questions, feel free to pupmail me about it...

I had my first special Vet appointment 3 weeks ago. I go back for the allergy testing this Saturday. I'll let you know how I feel about it. Right now I'm itchy because I can't be on anything to help. Except they put me on an antibiotic so I don't get an infection from my scratching. I wear shirts too so I can't scratch my sides as much. Hopefully I'll be feeling as good as Finley this time next year! We should start a club.

Good luck Rudy. I hope this special vet can get to the bottom of all the itchies and help you to feel better. Don't look at it as a vet visit look at as a great adventure. We are rooting for you pal.

Rudy
