Arrival Story:
Sugar was adopted from the North Shore Animal League at approximately 8 weeks old. She was always a skittish puppy and didn't adjust well to a house of 3 pre-teen girls and the noise they make. As she grew, she calmed down and became very playful and active around the house and yard. At about 4 years old, Sugar found a boyfriend. Having not been spayed, Sugar became a mom to 5 puppies, one of which stayed with us after the others were adopted. After a few months, both Sugar and Gizmo were spayed- this is when Sugar began to become a little bit aggressive. Sugar had many healthy issues as she grew older- seisures became common, muscle weakness had her falling down a bit and more aggression from either the fear, or pain she may have had. It was suggested that Sugar be sent to the Rainbow Bridge where she would be happy again. My mother couldn't bear to part with her, so Sugar remained in the house under close supervision from a few more years. As my sisters and I got older and left the house, Sugar began to slow down and her aggression subsided a bit. She finally went to the Rainbow Bridge after contracting and living with cancer for a year. Sugar was the first pet any of my sisters and I have lost, although Gizmo missed her most. Whatever her issues were, I know she is better and happy at the bridge.
