Arrival Story:
Gizmo was one of Sugar's puppies- a litter of 5. She earned her name by making noises that sounded just like the cute little friendly gremlin did in the movie of the same title AND she had similar coloring- white and tan. She was the first of her brothers and sister to climb the stairs and recognize her name. There was no way we were going to give her away. After the brothers and sister all found good homes, Gizmo was showered with attention so as not to miss her sibs. She adjusted VERY well bonding very strongly with my sister and I. As she grew older, we discovered that she could play hide and seek! She would 'yap' if she couldn't find people and knew when it was her turn to hide- usually staying in place and remaining quiet until found. In the warm weather, wehn the local kids would play outside, she couldn't be apart from anyone. When we would climb a tree, she would cry until someone came down. After a season of this torture, she learned to jump up into the tree and climb it with us never having a problem getting herself down. She never could grasp the 'usual' tricks dogs learned such as 'shake or paw' and the likes, but we didn't care- we had the only tree-climbing hide and seek playing dog that we knew of.

Gizmo passed away sometime in 1997. Cancer had us send her to the Rainbow Bridge before any of us were really ready to do so. I was not living at home at the time and the news broke my heart. I did know that she had been sick and each time I returned home for a visit, she was slower and less active but could NEVER be happier to see you. She was a snuggler and was not satisified to sit still unless she was on your lap. I haven't known a sweeter dog since.
