Arrival Story:
I don't remember where I was born or how I got lost from my first home. I just know that I was lost and terribly scared and I was spinning in the middle of a highway. Some people stopped and picked me up and took me to a wonderful shelter called the Beebe Humane Society. There Jaxie and Ron took care of me along with a hundred or so other dogs. It was strange and scary but I had plenty of food and a nice place to sleep--Ron even let me sleep inside! I'm told that lots of the dogs went away to forever homes, but it seemed like no one wanted a dog like me that couldn't see or hear--maybe they thought I would be too much trouble. Then one day Ron brought me outside and I smelled some new people. Jeff and Linda had come to take me to a forever home. Ron and Jaxie cried--they were sad to see me go, but happy that I would have a home with all the attention I needed. We had a long ride, and then when we stopped everything was new and scary again. I didn't know where I was, so I spun and spun and screamed. I liked it when one of my people would hold me and comfort me. I would quit screaming when they put me on their bed beside them (am I tricky, or what?) I discovered that I had 4 dogggie brothers--Jack, Winchester, and Remington, and a sister, Shelby, and a human brother, Aaron. AS I learned my way around and found that there was nothing to fear, I relaxed and quit spinning so much. Oh, I had my moments--I shut myself in the bedroom and ripped up all the carpet by the door. One night I was on the porch and Jeff and LInda didn't come home for awhile and I got scared and tore all the lattice work off the porch rail. Once I knocked over the floor lamp, shattering the shade. Two days after they replaced it, I knocked it over again. I didn't do it on purpose--I was just so happy to be playing with Winchester, that I got a little too excited. I almost always go outside to do my business, I follow my humans around, I play more than ever with Winnie and Remmy, and I still sleep with Jeff and Linda (mostly). I have a wonderful life with dogs to play with, a comfy home, and humans that love me. What else could I want? And guess what? I don't know I'm handicapped.

Bio:
Helen came to our attention through PetFinder and the Beebe (Arkansas) Humane society. She had lived there approx. 5 months when we became aware of her need for a home. Although we already had 4 dogs, something about her story touched our heart. Helen was born blind and deaf, the product of someone breeding Merle to Merle (also called double merle or lethal white) Somehow she survived and was found in a highway, spinning in circles and was taken to the shelter in Beebe. We had another wonderful dog (Shelby) from that shelter and after about 100 times NO!! from Linda, we went to visit Helen. One look at her was all it took. Although we did not take her that day, we fell in love with her and went back the next weekend to take her home with us. She has blessed us every day since. She doesn't know that she is handicapped!!Helen was very frightened when she first arrived and screamed and spun in circles. Petting her and holding her helped more that anything. Now she has memorized her home and territory and loves us as well as her 4 brothers and sisters, Jack, Shelby, Winchester, and Remington. The only time she still gets upset is when she is left for a long period of time or finds herself in unfamiliar territory. She is strong, healthy, and has INCREDIBLE senses of smell, touch, and feel. She knows all her humans and all the dogs by smell. She is a wonderful blessing in our lives. Our hope is that everyone that reads Helen's story would consider adopting a pet, even one that is "handicapped" and that when you do you will be blessed as much as we have. God bless all the rescuers out there!

Wow, has it been that long since I wrote? I have been with my family now for nearly 2 years and I love them more and more and I know they love me, too. I know this because I sleep with them every night and they LONG AGO quit saying anything about it. Actually, I think they like having me there!! I have seen lots of dogs come and go--Ray, Muffy, Shiloh, Nick, Doc, Teddy, and Delilah. Each came and went--some I liked, some I didn't, but Shelby, Remington, and Winchester are still here. One of the neatest things is that I have learned to run up and down the spiral stairs. For a long time, my people tried to keep me off of them with a gate, but when they were gone I'd pull the gate down and go up anyway. Learning to come down was a lot harder!!
I've been camping a bunch of times and I love it. My people also got an outside cat, which I don't think I like, so everytime it comes near the porch, I smell it and start barking at it. I get my nose rapped for that!!!
Probably my favorite way to spend time is to lie on the couch beside mom or day, (actually ON them) and just snuggle and feel them against me. I know they love me and will always protect me. Now THAT'S LIVING!!

Halloween Tag

Here are the rules:
Each player needs to tell seven random facts about themselves. Tagged dogs must post the rules in their diary and their 7 facts. Then choose 7 pups to tag and list their names. Let them know by pawmail or rosette that they have been tagged and to read your diary for the instructions on how to play.
Here are my 7 facts:
1. I am blind and deaf
2. I have my house and yard memorized
3. I can go up and down the spiral stairs in my house.
4. I hate gates, fences, any obstruction.
5. I destroyed 6 panels of lattice on our front porch one night
6. I sleep with my mom and dad on my king sized bed.
7. I get scared when I am left alone for a long time, and sometimes I throw a tantrum!

I love all my pals and it's hard to choose but the the seven pups that I choose for this tag are: Holly, Merlin, Sully, Falkor, Nick, Purity, Sully RN, and Jack London ( know that's 8, but Jack sent this to me....)

A week of chaos!

Well, it was a stressful week for a girl that can't see or hear. My humans had all the flooring in the entire downstairs replaced. For 3 days, I was locked in the bedroom with my siblings, then one day in the bathroom! of all places. When the workers would leave each day, I was allowed out, but EVERYTHING was topsy-turvy! My regular routes were blocked with all kinds of obstacles that I continually ran into-my poor head is still sore from running into things that weren't supposed to be there.
Thank goodness, it's done. Everything is back to normal, except some of the carpet was replaced with wood flooring that's REALLY SLICK, ESPECIALLY WHEN I RUN! But it's also COOL to a hot-natured girl.
Now I can find my way around again and I can run and play with Winnie and Remmy.
Next time I hope they consult ME when they get ready to do something that disruptive!!
