Pillows are for Super Models

Hi there! What are you doing? I just had some barley soup Gramma made. It was really good. I like soup a lot especially if Gramma or Grampa cook it!

I babysat today! Mama had to go to work so I babysat 8 people at Gramma's house today. It was fun! When Ma got home, she said "You have to come be a supermodel at home now." And we walked outside to go home. I barked around outside for a little bit because it's fun. I mosied into the house and she said "Hurry up, I'm going to sleep and if you want to, hurry up!!". I hurried and by the time she showed up, I was laying with my head on the pillow "snoring" in the middle of the bed. She said "Move over." I just act like I don't hear her. She squeezed in and used some of my pillow. She's got a trick of scratching my belly and I roll off the pillow to the side of the bed, forgetting that I was hogging the bed and pillow. Sigh. I like my belly scratched.

I can count to two - One, Two!

Mumma counts out dog food for me, one to six. I like that and she always says, One, Two, Me and You, Mumma and Baby! and me, I'm Baby.

A couple of nights ago, I ran out to the bird feeder and I ran straight into a real live rabbit! I was so surprised I started grooming the rabbit like I groom my fuzzy toys with tiny bites to clean. The rabbit stayed for a number of seconds then he ran off real slow. I ran after him even slower! I like rabbits. Don't call them bunnies - I'm The Only Bunny there is!

I'm a big girl now. I stay outside for up to five minutes by myself! Usually, I want mumma out there or I won't go outside. Now I sit on the porch. Mumma has to keep the door open to see me or it's no good.

A Baby Oriole Flew Into the House!

Mama opened the screen door wide so me and kitty could run in and out of the house. We like playing and sleeping in the house and only go outside sometimes for not very long. Mama says we should blow the stink off once in a while.

Mama was watching her tv show when there was a bit of a commotion by the back door. She thought it was the cat. I went over there to check it out. It was a baby oriole!

He was really cute! He had big eyes and very short tail feathers. He was scared of me! Ma came over to see what I was doing. I was following that baby bird around!

Mama looked outside and the Birdy Daddy was flying around anxiously from tree to tree calling his baby.

Birdy Daddy knew his baby was in the house. Mama talked gently to the baby bird and shooed him out. He landed on the blooming clematis and then flew to the pear tree. He was just learning to fly.

Birdy Daddy seen his baby in little pear tree. Mama told me to come in the house. I did. We left them alone to reunite.

Mama hugged me and told me that I was a good girl because I never barked or growled at the baby. I followed him but that was it. I was so curious!

We have so many baby birds around the house. Mama ignores them so they won't be scared of her. Today we looked at the wren nest though.

Big Robin Wants Me to Chase Him

Redwing Blackbirds, Purple Finches, House Wrens, Little Yellow Birds, Cardinals and Bluejays and Baltimore Orioles. And Hummingbirds, that's what's around the house now.

This great big robin always wants me to chase him. He don't fly too far so I don't run too fast. A house wren family lives in one of our pear trees. They get mad and chatter really fast when I get too close to their nest. Their little gourd house moves because of the wren babies inside.

We seen a mama sparrow feed her big baby sparrow at the feeder. He stood there while she picked up seeds and put them in his mouth. He fluttered his wings really fast when he wanted another seed. The baby was almost as big as the mama.

We have bumblebees living here.

I like birds but I don't like bees. I run in the house if I see a bee.

I see a bee! Run!

Why Do I Always Wake Up Hugging the Cat?

Ma woke up late. I was still snoring. I woke up cuz she woke up. I couldn't believe it! I was hugging the cat. I gave a crabby growl and moved away.

It's not all bad, though. We chased each other around the yard today. He watched me dig a hole. I made him climb a tree really fast. He tackles me if I'm just standing there. We walk together when Mama goes into the bush to look at plants.

Ma says I snore really loud.

Ma says I gave a big snore and woke up the poor little kitty who was sleeping next to me. He opened his eyes and rolled over the other way to go back to sleep.

Where ever Mama sits, we sit and fight. Quietly. That's what we're doing right now. She's typing. We're fighting.

Tiny baby turkey mash for dinner.

We Took Gramma to See a Yellow Lady's Slipper Today!

Me and mama took gramma to see a native orchid behind our house - a yellow lady's slipper - Cypripedium calceolus. I led the way!

Me and mama found it yesterday and when gramma heard, she said "take me to see it". We had to walk through the willow shrub trees and it was next to a great big tree. Good thing mama memorized where it was.

We wore natural bug repellant we got from the health food store. It's main ingredient was cranberry oil. The stuff really works! Mosquitos won't even land.

I ate my tiny baby turkey mash after we got back. It's hard work walking through the bush when you are a beautiful supermodel who is only 15 inches high!

Stink Mutt. Most Stinky I've Been!

Hey, hey, check me out! This is the most stinky I've ever been!

I rolled in dead animal and then ran around the yard and rolled in a pile of leaves. By the time my mom caught wind of me, I had a dried pile of stink muck covering my back. I was smiling happy by then!

I made my Mom chase me around the living room and pick me up to make me take a shower. She didn't want to pick me up. She wanted to just herd me in there. But that hardly worked.

I didn't get to walk in the mayapples and hickory trees today. That's where the dead animal was.

Okay! See ya, I'm gonna roll in something else stinky like old snakeskin to get the soap smell off! P U!

I'm a bunny. That's what Mom says, calls me. Them things out there jumping around, Mom calls them "Bun I Mean Rabbits". Sometimes people call them "bunnies" but I'm the only Bunny there is.

Them things are Rabbits. I chase em. I never catch em but I chase em.

Wild Prairie Rose, Meet Rosie the Shihpoo

Mama took me to look at the wild prairie rose in the bush right behind our house. This rose has a deep red stalk well covered with very sharp thorns. We wanted to see if the flower buds were starting. But we didn't stay. We ran away because the giant mosquitoes started biting us! We ran into the house really fast. I ran right after Mama! She said "Hurry up! Bugs are biting! Git in the house!"

Usually I don't listen. Usually I'd stand there like I couldn't hear her and then scratch the door for when I wanted to come in.

An old, well-used dog path is next to the wild prairie rose. Bunnies use that path too. We live in a type of landscape called the Carolinian Forest and tall grass prairie.

When's the Cat Leaving?

I like the cat sometimes. I tolerate when Mama loves him up. I share food with him, we drink water out of the bowl at the same time. We sleep together. But when is he leaving? Mama acts like he's staying. He got a new toy and a cat carpet house today. I want him to stay but then I get really mad. I don't bite him but I pushed him really hard with my nose the other day. He still likes playing with me. We snuggle and fight, snuggle and fight.

When Big White Girl (big white lab) came by, I sat by kitty on the porch. I don't want her to hurt him even if he makes me mad. She wanted to chase him.

We'll see how it goes.
