Arrival Story:
I'm Mommy and Daddy's first chihuahua. They have been dog owners since they were young but of larger breeds, a boxer (passed away after 15 happy years with Mommy) and a rottweiler (who lives with grandma and grandpa abroad) but since moving to an apartment in Boston Mommy realized that space is limited and was unsure whether a dog could be happy living with her. So they waited for college to be over, and then grad school to be over, and they began to read a lot on smaller breeds like mine to see if we would be a good match despite the apartment-style living. Once they were ready, they searched and searched and found me (or as they like to say, I found them).

Bio:
Dante is a blue eyed chihuahua. He was born in northern New Hampshire and is AKC registered. His mother is a short haired blue merle chihuahua and his father a long haired brindle chihuahua. He works hard to dispel chihuahua misconceptions: he never barks nor nips, he loves meeting people, and he is not a fan of being carried around a la paris hilton tinkerbell, always begging for his one hour (or more!) daily walks and weekend strolls to new places.

My Tail of Devotion for Dante

Dear Dante,
Did I ever tell you that I picked up "Animals in Translation" the other day in an attempt to find a way to talk to you, even if in dreams and only through signs? I have so many hopes and wishes for you as well as fears. Although you came into my life less than a month ago, I can no longer imagine a day without you. I wish I could shield you from all the bad things in life (like your remaining puppy shots or the snarky and stereotypical chihuahua comments or eyerolls that some people make from time to time when they walk past you or the moments when I am sad and you notice) so that you can live without ever experiencing any pain or sadness. I just want you to know the beautiful things in life, and for each moment to be full of happiness and new adventures. But I know that if I keep you in a bubble (also known as home), I would deprive you of the same adventures and lessons that I wish for you to experience and learn. So forgive me if sometimes I worry too much (like when Daddy takes your for a walk and I get mad because he won't hurry when crossing the road or tries to cross despite the blinking "do not walk" light, or when you are comfortably sleeping under the blankets by my side and I wake you up after I've had a nightmare where you stopped breathing because of all the heavy blankets on top of you).
I know, I know... I'm silly! But I love you so much and I cannot help it. I just want the best for you.
Love,
Mommy

Chapter 1:
"a ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for"

Mommy, Daddy, and I spent the day indoors today because I got one of those painful prickings on my butt, except this time I didn't even get a new medal on my collar for it. Mommy was really proud because I did not cry this time and got me some treats on the way out. After that, I got really tired and kind of hot and fell asleep as we headed back home. I slept and slept and when I woke up it was already past 9pm and was very hungry! I ate almost twice as much as I usually do but Mommy said it was okay and pampered me. Now I am watching a movie and feel a lot better but kind of tired. Mommy made me this page and she said I could make friends here, so I look forward to hearing from you.

Love,
Dante
