 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: April 6th 2002
Likes: food, walks, going to the lake to swim, doggie parks and lots of attention! did i mention food?

Pet-Peeves: not getting her daily walks; not being allowed to run after rabbits

Favorite Toy: she has several and she has a different favorite toy for each member of the family

Favorite Food: meat

Favorite Walk: the wetlands around the nearby dog park where she can be offleash and sniffing through the bushes

Best Tricks: she can 'high 5', 'low 5', but the one I like best is the one she came up with, if she is not getting enough attention or time for a walk, she chases her tail as fast as she can! she knows that gets our immediate attention.

Arrival Story: I had to have my 13 year old Cocker spaniel put down b/c of an infection he could not seem to fight even with daily trips to the vet for injections so I was not ready for another dog but I promised my then 13 year old son, he could have a dog.2 short weeks after Dakota went over the "rainbow bridge", Columbia Second Chance was doing a Saturday visit to one of the Pet stores; We went out and there were 9 little chubby black lab puppies and 1 chocolate lab; they were only 4 weeks old so we could not take it home for 4 weeks but it was early May, I fell in love with them all, as did my son, so I told him to pick out the runt of the litter and it had to be a female. So he did, we adopted that day but had to wait till the end of May to get her which was good b/c it was the day before my son's 13th bday and the beginning of summer break.

Bio: Jhet was a typical Lab puppy full of energy, loved to chew, tore up phone books, got the end of the toilet paper roll on more than one occasion and pulled the toilet paper out into the living room or as far as she could get. I was full of bruises the first 6 mos. we had her with her biting, nipping me. At the time, I thought she was , well lets just say, I had a hardtime adjusting to her constant bites and needing to play. She was/is incredibly intelligent; she is an excellent hunter, though never trained; I started taking her for long walks when she was 5 mos. old; she went thru obedience classes; Since that time, we walk daily at least once and sometimes twice; she loves to walk and if its time for a walk, she goes to get her leash. She has saved my life I think just through the walking daily. She rules this house and has the most wonderful personality; I think she is human sometimes when I look into her gorgeous brown eyes. Everyone in the area for about 2 miles, knows jhet and I; they have watched her grow up from this plump little pup to this still plump beautiful black lab. She is the most amazing animal! She is very protective of me and when we are walking , if we meet someone she is not familiar with, she stays between me and them and sits on my feet. She is 95 lbs of solid muscle with some extra padding :)

Forums Motto: she is a LIFE SAVER

Well, today I am 6 years old, whatever that means....all I know is I was treated like a Queen today...even more so than usual....
I had a walk early this morning; Mom gave me TWO new squeaky toys...I do love to SQUEAK them....I also got another rawhide bone....I get those alot but I still like getting them....in fact every time mom comes home from someplace with those plastic bags, i wait in the kitchen because I know she is going to give me something.....usually a bone!!!!
I am also getting a new bed though I like mom and dad's king size bed just fine....maybe they are going to sleep on it and let me have their bed all to myself, deserving that I am!!!!
Also I got canned food today instead of those miserable little hard kibble junk...ugh....ever taste that stuff???
AND I went on a second walk around the wetlands by our house and at the dogpark by our house....where you can be OFF leash...glad they trust the humans there so you don't have to drag them around on that leash....I can roam and play there and the humans can be free too!!!
I did teach a young golden retriever, who was not sure what to do with all that water in the lake at the doggie park, how to fetch a stick and SWIM!!
i am thinking my humans should go ahead and let me be a lifeguard like my teenaged girl is....
I am one good teacher! after I swam out a few times to get a stick (I do this to please my humans...) this young 3 month old golden retriever...got the hang of getting in the water and doing this dog paddle thing and by the time we left, it was swimming out maybe 6 feet and bringing back the stick...thinking it was really cool!!
I chased some frogs in the water; I smelled alot of smells and got to smelling alot better by rolling in some wonderful scented dead things....mom made me get back in the water (not a chore for labs:) and wash off abit....oh well I smelled GOOD for a while:P
So it was a good day and a good birthday! now I am tired so going to go lay down on my king sized bed....so glad my humans that I own are going to give this to me....nite nite.

Just because it is 10degrees with what they call the wind chill, my dad who by the way was off work and spent a good part of the day laying on MY couch taking up MY space, did not take me for a walk...can you believe it?
10 degrees is like near perfect weather for we labs! What more could you ask for, a little snow in the air, cool crisp air to invigorate one while walking....I am trying, TRYING to take care of my humans but there are times when I wonder if I am wasting my energy.
I go outside and I play around, throwing my bone up in the air, chase my tail till I get that whole big deck spinning like a top...I have to stand still just to get the deck to stop spinning at times but know what? do they come out in that great air? I get a squeaky toy and squeak it for all I am worth till my jaws ache? does that entice them OUT in the fresh air?
well actually MOM is more likely to come out b/c she seems to speak lab-ease but she comes out for a few minutes and then goes back in complaining about winter.
HOWEVER MOM does take me for walks almost every day...the other day it was snowing so hard that I looked like one of those white labs when we got home ( I am a black lab thank you ) and mom's gray hair was all white..but it was fun running around catching snow flakes.
OK well enough for my first entry; I am tired now from a day of imagining going on a walk.....Mom is off tomorrow , she will take me!
