Hello everyone! Long time, no see. Mom doesn't get on here much anymore since she works full-time and facebooks now. We, Leda and I, are stars on her page. Naturally! Pretty much we are the same as ever. I have gotten even better at sneaking mom's shoes and gloves and whatever else I can find to play with or hide in my crate. Mom hardly ever sees me do it! Hehehehehe
I am almost seven years old now, but I still play like I was a year young! I am very talented, too. Last summer a little bird accidentally flew into the house. I picked it up in my mouth immediately. Finally mom realized I had it and dad made me open up. Out it flew and escaped through the open door! My folks were so stunned they just stood looking at me. I have to say I was pretty surprised, too. It's the retriever in me, they said. Leda would have just stood there staring at it until mom or dad got it. I guess that's what her breed does. Weird. Well, happy holidays, all. Hope you all have a great year! Love, Kierkegaard (Kierke or K)

Thank you to all my friends for the great gifts and best wishes. Mom doesn't have time to do dogster the way she used to...working seems to take a whole day for most of the week! I love being home and not having to go anywhere. Anyway, thanks for thinking of me. Mom is very touched too.
I'm doing ok--I had to take antibiotics for a couple of weeks because I got a stomach infection; mom says it's because of the poopsickles--hee. She was kinda mad, but you know....Anyway, better now. Leda was soooo jealous when dad came home and took me to the vet! Mom gave us both a treat whenever I got a pill. Made my mouth taste better and Leda wasn't so anxious--you know how she gets!
Well, it's almost the equinox which means more light. Soon we'll be getting up to the 24 hour mark. We hope the summer will be warmer this year so that the flowers will bloom better.
Well, happy spring everyone (almost!). Love, Kierke

I rescued a human today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering
apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew
I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she
wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident
I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't
been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and
I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about
my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make
a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made
little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head
up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for
companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to
assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I
instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I
would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do
everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her
eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many
more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to
be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

I KNOW mom had roast bird in the house because I SMELLED it! I am half retriever you know and I know a bird from anything else. But did I get any for dinner? NO! But I got petted and mom washed my bed today and I got a bone, so I guess it's ok. We got to run around the yard for a long time too.I barked at other dogs, of course. Leda just watches...
Well, thanks for your friendship and the chance to know you all. And thanks for my home and my sister and my bones and my dinner and my bed and--speaking of which--I think it's night-night time. Happy Turkey Day all--Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday season! Love, Kierke
Oh and Happy Birthday to my Grandpapa who would have been 86 today. He's in heaven with my sister Angel and all the other dogs my mom and dad knew through the years. Please say a prayer for everyone at the Rainbow Bridge and their families. K

Leda and her paws! A little rain doesn't bother me. I do admit, though, that a little more sunshine would be nice this summer. We haven't gotten to be outside as much as we'd like because of it. We've dug some fine holes, chased birds, barked at the stupid squirrel across the street, sniffed where the dumb cat next door has been in our yard, and stolen bones from each other. So we've had fun. But we've also been in the house or in our kennels a lot. Mom and dad have to do that work thing. Mom said she'd teach us more tricks this summer but it has been toooo wet for mom and prissy paws. That's my name for my Prissy Sissy--oh wait, that's 2 names! Ha.
Well gotta go. Later! Kierke

It's been a long time since mom and I felt like writing. She's been busy and I've had to learn to live with a sister. But mom's work is slowing down and I enjoy bossing Leda around; she's a pretty good sport!
The weekend before last, mom took us to this place where they look at your teeth, ears, tummy, and--ahem--your rear. I thought it was just a little personal, but I smelled treats so I behaved and sure enough, I got one! I also got my shots updated, but heck, it's just a little stick and then it's over. I was very, very good.
I must have been REALLY good because mom and dad took L and me to the fun vacation place we went to last year. I think they went out of town and had some kind of human family thing, but it couldn't have been as fun as what we did. We ran around, met other dogs, played, and came home smelling something like horses, mom said. What are horses? I didn't see any that I know of, but I liked that place a lot...
I've also been running around in mud because it won't quit precipitating here. Mom is disgusted. But at least the columbine are coming back. Leda did her best to keep the roses trimmed all winter with her teeth and I made sure we had good paths among the bleeding hearts! Mom says that between the weather and us, she HOPES she has flowers this year. I told her it was ok, we helped!
I found out I have a pup niece. A little puggle (Poggle?) that is as cute as can be. I haven't met her but mom says she's a little mischief! Can't be as good at that as I am though!
Well, pups, have a great spring and summer. Peace and Love--Kierkegaard

Well, the leaves are falling and the ground is the same color I am! Sometimes I can't see myself coming or going! But Leda always finds me and we race around the yard, tumble on the ground, chase birds, go on alert when we hear weird noises, and beg mom for treats together. Sometimes that last part works and sometimes not.
This summer has been so busy for mom and dad that we haven't been anywhere but the back yard. But that's ok. As we've said, it's been fun.
Well, tonight Leda and I are sitting in the living room floor chewing on rawhide bones and taking turns stealing each others'. I went to get a drink of water and what did she do? Took it. Then she was scratching an itch and when she turned away for a second, I stole it back. Ha! Take that, pupster!
We are wondering how winter will go. Mom is complaining already. She hates snow but dad has a good job here and so does she so she figures we're stuck. What's the problem already? I mean, snow is COOL. Leda likes it better than rain--she's a silly prissy paws and walks under the eaves rather than go out in the middle of the yard when it's raining. Sheesh! Anyway, we're ready for snow fights! In the meantime, we're enjoying the last of the flowers...Summer you were sweet, but Autumn is honey gold and winter moonlit silver! Wow--Mom didn't realize how long it has been since I wrote in my diary--What a summer!
First of all, this is the first summer I've had a sibling. Every morning mom or dad let us out to pee and then we go back in for breakfast and then we go back out to poo and play. Mom calls Leda a dog-a-roo because she leaps over me all the time. She keeps picking up our red rubber bone and running off with it and OF COURSE I have to chase her around the spruce and birch trees and then around the wild roses. WE have made a BIG trench--then we charge across the lawn and down the side of the house and back. Then we stop for a drink and flop down panting, until Leda does that "I'm gonna getchoo" look and we pound off again! Finally mom makes us come in and we get a Yummy Chummy or two and lie down for our morning nap while mom does stuff.
Summer is great! We sniff flowers, eat grass, dig, chase crickets, hunt birds (pretend), sniff the cat trail that the stupid neighbor cat leaves in our yard every night (the NERVE) and make plans to get him. He keeps knocking down mom's flowers. We run up and down the stairs to the deck and follow mom. I LOVE it when she turns on the hose to water the plants--especially that spray thing--and I leap into the water to get a drink. Mom gets mad at me because I get in her way, but it is FUN! I love water. Leda's silly--she runs away from it. The only things I don't like are bugs. I hate those bugs--they bite me on my tummy and it ITCHES--but them mom pets me and puts stuff on the bits to make them all better...
Well, better get going--have lots to sniff and stuff. Happy Summer! Kierke

Wow did I ever get a surprise on Saturday! Mom and I stopped at the shelter, this place where I spent some time over a year ago before she came to take me home. I was a little worried, I can tell you! What were we doing there? Had I been THAT bad? But then we went into this little room and there was another dog there, a girl dog. We sniffed, licked tongues, and milled around a little. Mom and this other lady talked awhile and gave us some treats. It was a nice visit, although I really didn't get WHY we were visiting.
Well, I found out later. Mom and I got back in the car, she dropped me off at home with dad, and then came back--WITH THAT DOG!
I tell you, I HAD to bark! What was she doing in MY house?
But since she had been nice at the shelter place, I decided to act cool and just wait to see how this played out. We sniffed again and she looked all over the house and mom and dad started that no-no thing they did when I came in mixed with all the petting. I started to get suspicious and when she didn't leave at dinnertime and when bedtime came and went and she stayed, I had the sneaking feeling she wasn't leaving at all!
Well dogsters, it's been five days now. I don't think she's going anywhere, but I have to say, it's kinda fun having someone to carouse with. We chew bones together, steal each other's bones, drink out of the same dish at the same time, fake out mom and dad, and talk our own dog talk! We've been protecting the homestead, taking naps together, and getting in the odd nip now and then! I didn't realize how fun that could be!
So--I guess I have a sister to stay and I think it's ok!
Well, better go--my furbling is off to the other end of the house and I gotta see what she's up to....can't let her have anything I don't get! Later--K.
