How I Died

Hi Everypup,

I have been a Fur Angel for over a month now. I am happy to be here with Bandit. We have helped my Mom and Dad rescue three new dogs that need love. Still they miss me and Bandit terribly.

Mom and Dad found out how I died. It wasn't pneumonia after all. I had a blood clot in my lungs that was caused by Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Although this makes Mom and Dad feel a bit better as not much could have been done to save me, they just wish I could have been better diagnosed. Hopefully my story can help out some other doggies in diagnosing and hopefully treating, this awful disease.

I will be watching over you all, a guardian angel to all Dogster Pups!

This morning I went to be with my brother Bandit.

"Not the least hard thing to bear when
they go from us, these quiet friends,
is that they carry away with them so
many years of our lives. Yet, if they
find warmth therein, who would
begrudge them those years that they
have so guarded?
And whatever they take,
be sure they have deserved."

When the phone rings in the middle of the night it is usually not good. Well my pack got a call that my lungs were getting weak, I am needing more oxygen to keep my BOL up and it is supposed to be less. Right now I am still hanging in there, I will try to keep you all updated but I may not be able to write for awhile.

BOL for my BOL!!!!

Mommy came to visit last evening and my BOL was at a steady 85...well my very special wonderful doggie doctor, Dr. Rousseau called this morning and says that my BOL has been steady in the 90s since last night!!!! Hooray!!! Thank you for all the prayers, chants and paw power...THEY ARE WORKING A MIRACLE!

BUT...we still have to be VERY cautious because my doctor says that he has seen a lot of pups improve on day 2 of the ventilator only to go downhill day 3, so the next 24 hours are going to be CRITICAL! If everything still looks good I will be weaned off of the ventilator. Today I also get a feeding tube because I have not eaten in 3 days, only fluids. One more thing they might try to do for me today, if I can tolerate it, is get a biopsy of my lung. Although every test done so far has pointed to a very bad bacterial pneumonia, they want to be 100% sure and that would be the only way.

Hi Pups & Kitties,
The Doggie Doctor told my pack today that they need to hang in there and be STRONG because I am hanging in and being REALLY STRONG! Even with my lungs not so good my BOL went into the 90s today! It is back down to 85 but my Doctor says that is still really good because they lowered the ventilator to 60% oxygen. So everyone be STRONG with me and my pack and keep the Power of the Paw coming beacuse it is really, really helping!

My new doggie doctor stayed with me all night last night. I had a rough time but I am still here on the ventilator. Last night my lungs perforated because they were so weak, so now I have some tubes inside me putting pressure on my lungs so thay stay strong. Although this is very bad, the good news is that my BOL is up to 89! My new doggie doctor said that all of this is a huge negative with a tiny positive, but because there is a tiny positive not to give up yet so I am going to keep fighting!

Love You All,

A Visit from Mom and Dad!

Mom and Dad came to visit me tonight! They thought it was going to be really scary seeing me on a machine but I surprised them with how good I look for everything I have been through. I have a tube in my mouth hooked up to the machine that is breathing for me and some IVs for medicines and fluids. The machine has numbers on it for my heart, blood pressure, blood oxygen level (BOL) and temperature. Mommy says I look like I am very relaxed, sleeping very peacefully which is a huge relief for her because when she brought me here last Monday I was having such a hard time breathing. Even though I look like I am sleeping, I can still hear and feel. Mom and Dad got to pet me and give me lots of kisses and tell me how much they love me!
I am going to rest now and give those super antibiotics time to work and try to get my BOL up up up!

XOXOX,
Miss Hayley

Hi Everyone,
Well I just gotta say keep that Paw and Prayer Power coming cuz I made it on the ventilator. I have a new very very very special doctor now, one that is experienced with my sort of situation. Good news is that my blood pressure is great and my heart is very strong! My doctor cannot believe that I am 11. The bad news is that my BOL is still only 85... it really needs to be in the 90s, but my special doctor said not to get discouraged that it may just take some time. I am fighting the ventilator a bit so they have me on sleepy medicine. Mommy and Daddy are coming to visit me for the first time since Monday, Hooray! So thank you all for helping me over this first hurdle...there will be many more. I will bark more later.

Love you all,
Miss Hayley

Need A Miracle Please!

My Friends,
I am going downhill fast. It is very hard for me to breathe right now, even in the oxy cage. They called my Mom and Dad this afternoon and said that if I am not put on a ventilator that I would not make it through the night. Transfer to the ventilator is very risky in itself and if I do make it on, they only give me 20%. My pack and the Vet think that is worth a try as at this point we need to buy some time for the antibiotics to work. They will also be able to get a sample from my lungs so we can get a better idea about the doggiesickdemons. If everything goes OK with my transfer to the ventilator then Mom and Dad will be able to visit me tonight.
Thank you everyone for the prayers...it is now that I need them most!

Love,
Miss Hayley

Time for the HEAVY Artillery

Hey Pups and Kitties,
I am still here in the Oxy Cage and although I haven't got any worse, I haven't got any better either. My Doggie Doctor says it is time to take out the heavy artillery. Since the first and second round of meds weren't working it is time to call in the Superman of Antibiotics. I am starting on it tonight and me and my pack are hoping and praying that it will help me rid myself of the Doggiesickdemons!
I want to thank everyone for all the pmails, rosettes, pumpkins and stars they have sent to me, I know I am avery lucky girl to have so much paw power behind me. A special thank you to my best pal Mike for calling in the Beagle Brigade (Snoop Doggs Rock!) and to my new friend Eddie Essig for organizing the Chant for Hayley!

Love You All,
Miss Hayley
