Arrival Story:
we adopted maggie as a puppy from the Animal Rescue League in October of 2004. I couldn't decide which one I wanted- there were 8 to choose from! Maggie and 2 sisters and 1 brother were brindle pit mixes, and the 4 brothers were fawn boxers. She was housetrained in 3 days and had only 3 accidents in 2 years. She loves going on car rides, playing with Cousins Carly and Zoe and other pooch friends at Frick Park. My snugglebug loves to curl up between mommy and daddy in bed, and if it's cold enough, she'll bury under the covers.

Miss Maggie has the best personality ever! She knows when she's been good (and isn't afraid to ask for a reward!) and she also knows when she needs to behave and quiet down. She is ALWAYS surprised when she farts (she'll look around at her butt to see what happened)! She also likes to huff and snort when she thinks you aren't paying attention to her. She wishes there were more dog-friendly places in Pittsburgh to shop and eat! She would love to go with mom and dad when they go out!

I was running down a big hill on friday, chasing after that fat raccoon that lives under an old tree. I was almost there when Itook a tumble and cut my paw. My daddy called for me and I ran back up to my house and didn't think anything about my paw.
When Daddy saw me he got really scared. I started shaking because I didn't know what happened. He made me hold still while he looked at my foot and then I realized how much it hurt.
Daddy carried me inside and called Mommy to come home from work. He put me in the bathtub and cleaned my paw as best he could. I wiggled and wiggled and wimpered until he finally let me go lick my paw on my bed.
Mommy came home and I started shaking again because I thought she would yell at me... but she didn't! She gave me a biscuit and I let her look at my foot--but only for a minute! She told Daddy we needed to go see the VET.
OH, MAN! I HATE that place!
Mommy wrapped some gauze around my foot put me in the car. It must have been a really busy day for lots of dogs because we were fourth in line! The dog before me ate rat poison, so I had to wait for a while until the doctors could see me. That was okay by me, I got to play with lots of kids in the waiting room!
The vet tech took me away from Mommy and Dad and put me on a big table where they washed my paw out and gave me some shots. I never liked needles. I don't know what I ever did to them!
Then the doctor came over and before I knew what was going on, pop, pop, pop, pop! There were 4 staples in my paw! Then I got 2 biscuits while the vet tech wrapped me up and sprayed my bandage with something stinky. She told me not to eat it, but I'm going to wait until I get home.
We walked through another door and there was Mom! She was so excited to see me!! Daddy gave me a big hug and another biscuit while Mommy talked to the doctor about my care instructions. Mommy kept wrinkling her nose at my bandage. She said it smelled AWFUL and I might not sleep in bed with them tonight! WHAT? I'll get in there anyway....
When I got home, the kitties came downstairs and smelled me and kissed me hello. Emi jumped all over me and let me kiss her until she got interested in some shoelaces.
I guess I looked really sad so Mommy gave me some treats and let me snuggle up in front of the heater. She says in a few weeks I'll be ALL BETTER and we can go to the Dog Park and see all my friends!

I am SO tired from all the partyin' on my birthday! Mom came home from work early and me and Daddy cooked dinner outside on the grill! She kept saying she had a surprise for me. But I didn't know what it was!!! I kept dancing in circles on the patio, I was so excited!

Finally, dinner was ready. Mom got a bottle of ketchup and picked something off the grill and chopped it up, then mixed it with ketchup and my kibble. I think it's hamburger! Is it hamburger? IT'S HAMBURGER!!!! YAY!

I gobbled down my food so quickly I burped. whoops!

Next, Mommy made me put on a bandana- she let me borrow Dad's skull and crossbones bandana; I thought I looked so tough... but Mom said I looked CUTE and she laughed. She's silly.

We all got in the car and went to Frick Park's OLEA. I saw all my doggie buddies and they ran around after me for a while- until they realized my mom had a lot of treats. Then, they followed her around for a while!

When I was tired, we left the park and Mom said, How about some Ice Cream? I love ice cream! But I think Mommy forgot how much I love it, because when she came out of Baskin Robbins, she only had a cone for Daddy and a cone for herself. HEY!!!! But mom didn't forget because we had only walked 10 feet when she turned down to me and gave me a few licks from her Pineapple Coconut cone. OH BOY! It was so yummy!!!

When we got home, I flopped down on the rug, I was so happy and tired. Mom and Dad kept telling me to wake up and I got very annoyed with them. When I finally got up, I turned to see a BIG birthday biscuit with candles! WOW! Daddy had to help me blow out the candles 'cause I didn't know what they were doing on the cake. I was so full from my big dinner and ice cream that I only ate a little bit of birthday biscuit. Mommy said I could save it for later.

Wow, I was so pooped from my birthday, I slept almost all day Friday. I can't wait til I turn 3!!!! (then i'll be 21 in people years and daddy said I can try some beer!)

Boof! Boof! (that's how I bark, y'all)

My mommy and daddy didn't take me the dog park AT ALL last week!!! They were busy painting the living room. They did take me to the walking fountain, though, and I got lots of walks. I missed seeing my buddies.

Oh, well. It didn't matter because on Saturday, mommy woke up and packed a basket full of food and she showed me my very own Nalgene bottle from REI. Now I have one just like mom and dad! She filled it with ice cubes (and i snuck one, too) and water and packed my food and a blanket. I wondered if we are going on vacation again!

We got in the car and drove down the same road when we go to D.C. to see my cousin Carly. I got very excited... but halfway there, we stopped! There were lots of woods. My mom called it Ohiopyle.. I don't know what that means, but there were squirrels and bugs and PICNIC TABLES!!! I love to jump on them!!!

We ate lunch together, then mom put on my harness and we walked down a little road and mom said, Wanna get in the creek? Did she even have to ask?

OH BOY! it was so much fun spashing in the water. I am VERY good at walking on slippery stones and wading through water. I am so good that mom had to remind me all day to not run ahead. (i wish she and dad would hurry up- they're slowpokes!)

So we walked for a while in the creek and then we walked on the path for a while, then we heard the water getting louder-- when we went for a closer view, we saw a 2 foot waterfall! NEAT! The rocks were really smooth and level, so I scampered into the water and WHOOPS! My feet went flying out from underneath me! I started slippin' and sliding and I got really scared. Luckily, my harness caught a tree branch and my dad was able to pull me to safety. Now I know why they make me wear it!

We decided to stay on dry land for a mile, then we went back to the creek because I was HOT! we kept wandering and then I heard the water get really loud and then we were close to the edge of a BIG waterfall. mom called it Cucumber Falls. It was neat- we stood at the edge and looked down at all the people in the pool! They waved at me!

Mom had to carry me down some steep steps to the lagoon under the falls. I didn't think I wanted to get in-- my feet wouldn't touch the bottom. So we decided to keep walking on to the Fern Hollow path.

We took an extra long walk around the Fern Cliff trail and then, just when I thought I wouldn't take another step, I saw... THE YOUGH RIVER!!!!! WOOHOO!!! I ran with dad and jumped in! Wow! It was nice and refreshing. we were walking along the smooth rocks- and then dad got in up to his waist. I didn't want to be left behind, so I jumped in after him and swam 30 feet. I'm not too good at swimming; I got a lot of water in my mouth and coughed a bit.

Mom said I could try swimming one more time with dad, then maybe I should stick to shallow water. I agreed. Dad tried to make me get in for a third time, but I whined and Mom made Dad take me to shallower water.

We were very close to the car and I got in the back of the truck so mom could dry me off. I didn't know what we were going to do next, but I was tired. When I woke up, we were home!

What a great trip! Mom and Dad want to go again for river rafting-- but I don't think I can go with them. I'll need to persuade them to take me along, too. I want to work on my doggie paddle.
