Arrival Story:
I came across this breed just looking through a book of dogs. I had never heard of the breed before. Everything I read about the dog, and all the pictures I saw intrigued me. I had to have this breed of dog. I purchased Beau from a breeder in Missouri at nine weeks old. Beau has the best personality and disposition of any dog I've ever known. I loved Beau so much, I had to have a female as well. I then purchased Reba from a breeder in Iowa. I am now a "Registered Breeder". Beau has sired six litters of gorgeous puppies, and has made many other families happy owners of a shiba inu. I now have five females and three males. I've even added on a large room to my house just for the dogs. I would never subject my dogs to kennels. In fact, I'm adding an additional room where I can continue to raise and breed shiba inus. These are the greatest dogs I've ever owned !

Bio:
The shiba inu has been described as a large dog in a small dog's body - this is 100% accurate. Males are extremely strong and athletic, and average about 25 lbs. Females normally range from 18 to 20 lbs. This breed has a remarkably soft coat - they are fox-like in appearance, and seldom bark. They originate from Japan and have only been in the United States since 1953. They love the out of doors and prefer colder weather. They are easily house trained. They are very swift afoot - they can easily catch birds and even squirrels. Though somewhat independent, they bond very closely to their owners and make excellent companions and playmates for children.

My Tail of Devotion for Beau Dae

I searched high and low in the Texas area for local breeders of shiba inus, without success. I searched classified sections of newspapers, I called pet stores, and I visited websites. I finally found a website with various breeders offering shiba inus, but none anywhere close to me. I was determined to find a white/cream colored male shiba inu. I thought this color was the most beautiful - the puppies reminded me of polar bears. After checking references thoroughly of a breeder on this website, I decided on Beau. I hated the fact that he was in Missouri, and that my only choice was shipping him by air. I checked out all of the details of the shipping of puppies as well, and finally decided to go through with the purchase. I've never regreted the decision. Beau was the happiest little guy in the world when I took him out of his carrier at the airport. I literally stayed there an hour holding him while he covered me with kisses and affection. The guys who carried him out to me from the plane said that if I happened not to have shown up, that they were going to fight over who would get to take him home. They, like most people, were very curious as to what breed he was....and also, like most, had never heard of the breed when I told them. I had not had a dog of my own for several years. I was a single dad raising two boys over those years. I had gotten my two boys a beagle when they were young, but unexplainably the dog disappeared from the backyard, and I did not get another dog until my boys left home. It was worth the wait !!!
