indoors Arrival Story: Mama says: After I moved out on my own, I had a dream that Jesus came from Heaven and gave me an orange tabby that He had named Sebastian. I went looking for him, but didn't find him. Determined to have a cat, I "settled" for Mackenzie but have never regretted falling in love with her. A couple years later, a girlfriend's orange tabby got pregnant & gave birth to a litter of 5; 3 of them were orange males. She begged me to take one before her husband dumped them on the side of the road. I relented and said yes. She saved me the kitten with the darkest orange markings. Since we couldn't seem to connect in time for her husband to make good on his threat, I picked him up, sight unseen, in a box, at her mom's house, when Sebastian was 8 weeks old. My friend found homes for the other kittens, but since they were all outdoor cats, they all became road kill; Sebastian is now the only survivor of the litter. Bio: Sebastian says: I was meant for Mama long before I was born. Being a boy, I only accept attention on my terms, but when I want it, you'd better be ready! I'm a loud mouth and have no problems speaking my mind. There's never a wrong time to play - unless I'm napping and don't want to be disturbed. I designated myself official company greeter of the family, and I prey on any sun spot I can find. As I've gotten older I've developed asthma and slight kidney irregularities, but I haven't let that slow me down one bit! My mama's the bestest!
I was diagnosed with diabetes on 020/08/12. Doesn't this mean I'm extra sweet? Mama is super worried about this; she's watched cats suffer & die from diabetes before. My mama worries way too much!
Mama has been all wound up and carrying on the past few weeks - and she' been taking me with her! I thought I had hidden that I wasn't feeling good from her, but somehow, she figured it out and off I had to go to see Dr. David. Dr. David started saying things like "thyroid" or "kidney failure" or "die-ah-beet-sies" and he needed to look at my blood.
I was so happy when Mama took him home without letting Dr. David see my blood.
Next thing I know, Mama wakes me up during my post-breakfast nap, throws me into the carrier, hauls me down the stairs, shoves me in the car, and drags me to the animal shelter and left me in the bunny room! She stayed with me in the bunny room but she's never brought me to work with her before! I didn't understand! There are so many bunnies there & they all wanted to come sniff me out! I am so glad that she doesn't bring ALL of them home. Phew!
Then she took me to see a Dr. Michelle at the shelter, and SHE stole my blood. She also shaved my neck. How could she take my fur away when its been chilly outside?
Anyway, after that, Mama got really sick with some bug she ate, I guess. Mama did lots and lots of sleeping for days but when she wasn't sleeping she was crying and talking on the phone and hugging me and telling me how sorry she was that I was sick & she would do what she could to make me feel better.
What I don't appreciate is her way of making me feel better!
Yesterday she put me back in my carrier (she interrupted my afternoon nap in the sunbeams for this trip!) and off we went to see Dr. Vicky because Dr. David wasn't working. She said I had the die-ah-beet-sies thing and showed Mama had to poke me with needles! I only know this because I saw her show Mama the needles. I didn't really feel anything so that was OK.
What I don't like is when Mama takes her beeping thing (she says its really mine now) that looks just like her test-the-blood thing and sticks my ear! I don't like anyone playing with my ears! Mama makes me bleed and steals my blood now, too! There's got to be a law against this, right?
I guess she's given me medicine with all those pokes, because I'm already feeling better. I got to enjoy a rousing tussle with Mackenzie last night. Kenzie didn't approve, but this time, Mama was happy to see me do it. She sure is strange, since she usually scolds me for jumping on Kenzie!
Mama says that since I have the die-ah-beet-sies now, that I can't have better blood than she does with her die-ah-beet-sies and that now we can be extra sweet together.
My special Catster furiends, like OWP, and Jason Hopper, and Julius (who also has the die-ah-beet-sies) and the humans have been so helpful to my mama. I knew they were pawsome cats!
When Mama got the pmail today that said "Sebastian is Cat of the Week" I did not believe her. After all, she's been saying lots of unbelievable stuff lately, such as "I don't have time for Catster anymore" and "I don't have time to play with you right now".
So when Mama pulled this one out of her hat, I thought she was trying to make me feel better. I've been having asthma attacks of late; you should see the pollen on Mama's car! I just couldn't believe the fuss until I started getting messages & rosettes & gifts from everyone. This is just the coolest thing ever and even Mackenzie's getting in on the excitement by racing around the living room, chasing me! She never does that!
So, since such an honor means your adoration for the coming week, allow me to get in position to receive your respect and homage. Orange Rules!
My hamster sister, Reese, has been sick with cancer for a couple months now. Mama's been giving her medicine for pain, giving her the most favorite of her food, and keeping an eye on her, but her pain was getting to be too much for her and she began biting at her cancerous leg and foot over the weekend.
Mama loaded her in the car this morning and took her to the clinic to have her PTS. She tells me it was so cold this morning that Reese's paws were cool when they got there. They didn't have an appointment but Dr. Vicki was able to help her. Reese was cold, so Mama says she wrapped her in her scarf-thing she wraps around her neck, and Reese tried to stuff it in her pouch!
So Reese got rid of her pain for good and went to sleep with a pouch full of her bedding, lettuce, and a banana chip. Mama says she lost 250 grams since she got sick, which is a really big deal when you only weight 100 grams when you're full grown.
I will not miss her, sorry to say. That rotten hamster chased me around in her exercise ball all the time! It's not fun getting run over by a rodent! I have done the howl for her and purred for Mama, who is sad but glad that Reese's not in pain anymore. Mama was there the day was born, and there the day she died, and almost every day in between. She says we can't be too sad, because Reese had a fabulous life and, I will admit, she was super spoiled!
