Arrival Story:
She was a Valentine's Day present to me-- I whined and whined that I HAD to have her. I fell in love with her the INSTANT I saw her. It turns out, she was from a puppy mill and and every bone and joint in her ribs, hips and legs was abnormal. Refusing to put her to sleep, we spent a fortune in surgery... she was and is fine! Walks a bit funny, but it does not bother her a bit. At 12, she still runs around like a puppy, jumps all over furniture when she gets going, and loves to chase and throw her toys all around. She is the very very very best dog-friend I have ever had and will probably EVER have.

Bio:
On 6 October, 2009, The Baerleht went to The Rainbow Bridge. At nearly 16 years old-- which she would have been in December-- we shared a LOT of years together. Being disabled for the past few years, I spent a great deal of time with her each day and she is, and will always be my very best friend. I have had many dogs over the years, but The Baerleht has always been more to me than just a canine companion. Her loss is a tremendous blow to me, and I hope that when I pass on, hers is the first face I see on the other side.

Last week, while I was getting a much-needed bath, I got hurt in the tub! Lately, because my "deformed" back legs (I prefer to think of them as extra-shapely) are getting a little weaker and older, I can't seem to stand up in the tub for very long. So mommy lets me lie down while I get my bath... only this time, it looks like I may have pinched a nerve or something, because I can't use my right back leg. For the first few days after it happened, I could not walk on it at all, and I had to go out into the front yard to use the restroom (soooo unladylike)-- just could not get up and down those darned stairs in the backyard! I went to the vet and she gave me some Metacam. It seems to be working OK, but it looks like more vet visits and maybe some x-rays for me... AND the WORST part is that I have to be on a (cringe) DIET for a couple of weeks so I don't put any extra weight on my poor little leggies. I am such a BIG BEAUTIFUL GODDESS of a WOMAN! The diet thing is just SO not me... but at least the diet dog food comes in a pretty purple bag... AND, I don't have to have another bath for a couple of months. Getting up on the featherbed has gotten tough for me, but believe me, I NEVER give up. Mommy will probably have to get me my OWN featherbed if this keeps up.... *sigh* I would just love one in a nice animal print, possibly a velvet material with some sparkly sequins and maybe a tassel or two....
