Arrival Story:
I had been searching for a rat terrier for a few years. It was 1999 and I responded to an add placed by a breeder in Hawthorne, FL (about 2 hours away from Orlando). I went to LOOK only. I took a quick look at the entire litter and their parents and all were great. I was really taken by the personality of "Zero", so called because the breeder's family thought it looked like she had a giant black zero painted on her back. After a little lunch and a lot of soul searching, I decided to take Zero home. I placed her in the car and she, none too happy about being separated from the only family she'd known, draped her chin off the outside of the passenger seat and pouted. A few minutes into the ride I picked her up, placed her in my lap, and she went to sleep immediately. She spent the entire drive home in my lap. She got ansy once so I pulled over to the side of the road, she did her business and we got back in the car. I knew I had a great dog when, at only 8 weeks old, she knew to "go" outside. She's been in my lap ever since.
