Blu's first year

So its been awhile

Haven't been online for awhile, I've been pretty busy. I got my CGC at the end of September and we also finished agility training which was SO much fun.

Mom and Dad have spent a lot of time with the vet again. Fudgy and I got tangled in our collars, and Fudge ended up with a prong in his eye, and then I went and swallowed half a tennis ball without Mom and Dad knowing and that almost had to be surgically removed, but half an hour before surgery, well I pooped it out. Mom and Dad are relieved, but now I don't get to play with tennis balls anymore. Apparently Mom and Dad have a banned toy list so long that all that's left is Koz, Jolly balls and kongs!!!

I'm learning more and more how to be a good boy after the whole disaster at my grandparents house when mom and dad were out of town, and so Grandma is going to give me one more try, I hope I don't mess it up.

I've learned that pillows aren't for humping or eating. I still get confused every once and a while though. I've learned that I need to stay in my crate until Mom and Dad wake up rather than demanding release at 2am. I'm much better with this one since Mom has increased my time at day care!!!

I still really don't like Fudge to have anything, even if I have the same thing, so Mom and Dad are helping me with that, even though it means being sprayed. I also haven't been in "time out" for near as long as I used to be, so there may be hope yet that I'll be as civilized as my older brother. But hey, I'm still a baby at 16 months old right?

Mom put a silly hat on me the other night for this thing called Christmas, she says she'll be updating my pictures soon.

Canine Good Citizen

Saturday was a fun day. Mom and Dad got Fudge and I all packed up in the car to go somewhere. We thought we were headed to the beach even though it was kinda cold. Turns out we drove way farther! We went to Joliet. When we got there there were a TON of Malamutes... I know malamutes cause three of my cousins are mals. So I just wanted to play, but I'm not allowed off leash in public places (one of the many sacred pitty rules!)

We walked around and then mom and dad setup the crates. Booooo! I hate that thing. I wasn't happy to be in there so Mom and Dad put my harness on and let me pull around the tire to expend some energy. Then mom went away with Fudge...

When they came back she gave Fudge lots of treats, he passed his Good Canine Certification!

I was really hyper though and Mom on a whim told Dad to trust her and so Dad took me over there and it was a total piece of cake, though I really wanted to jump and lick the instructor!

So woo hoo Fudge and I are officially Good Canine Citizens, though I totally could have told you guys that!

Hello All!

Fudge and I just got back from the beach. Boy did we have fun. You can see a picture of us from the beach on my page, I had fun fetching and swimming. It was the greatest. I'm off to nap, Mom took a picture of me after the beach that you can see as well!

So I've had the annoying draining sore on my leg for 3 and a half months, and like usual Mom was putting that hot wet rag on it last night when she noticed something in it. The vet (the good one) told Mom and Dad on Saturday that she thought the sore was being caused by a foreign body, maybe even a stitch from my surgery in June, and well I'll be darned, it was a stitch.

Daddy had tried to remove my stitches himself in June, but couldn't do one of them. He took me to the vet nearby (a new vet I'd never really been to) and they said it was dissolvable (which I assume means goes away on its own) and well they were wrong. So $600 dollars later and almost two rounds of antibiotics and its turns out that darn stitch came back to haunt us. Daddy and Mommy had be up on the counter and Daddy just pulled it right out, it didn't even need to be cut!

I was so relieved!!! It feels better already. Now if only that pustule on my foot would heel, I'd be like a new boy!

licks for all,

My Tail of Devotion for Blu

Oh Blu, you came into our lives so unexpectedly. I had just bought my own house which is being remodeled so I've been living with Daddy, the two cats and Fudge and Aunt Karin with her malamutes and cats downstairs. Things were how do you say, CROWDED! My heart broke when I saw our neighbor lead you into the garage on that colder January day. I told Daddy that if you were still there when we got home, I would be taking you in, and sure enough you were. They were going to sell you to a friend who ended up not wanting you (probably because you are an awful watchdog) so we took you. Since that day you've had 3 surgeries and countless visits to the vet. You have bad allergies and teeth, but we love you. I often think for a minute what would have happened to you if we didn't have such good luck, but I don't dwell on it, because everyday you've been with us, you've challenged us, whether its our patience or because of your determination. You've taught Daddy and I a lot of lessons and a lot about ourselves. We both look forward to a long and healthy life with you and your big brother!

Love always,
Mom and Dad.

My First Summer

This thing called Summer is the greatest!!! I get to swim, run and play a lot!

We did a lot this summer, I took an obedience class (AND PASSED NA NA) and we've been going to swim A LOT, so much that they've started calling me flipper, I LOVE the water! I've been training a lot for something called a weight pull, they put this contraption on me that I LOVE to try and bite, and then Mom makes me pull this big tire, which I really would prefer to chew on. Last time we practiced, I pulled as much as my cousin Boogie who's a big Alaskan Malamute.

The summer has brought some interesting visits to the vet. I broke my leg playing right before Mom's b-day in March. I had another surgery in June to take the pins out of my leg, but this annoying thing has stayed. They call it a pustule, I call it a PITA (Pain in the a--)-Sorry for the language Mom. I've been on a lot of medicine for that, and these itchies on my skin and gunk in my ear. I even got the canine flu, if you can believe it! But I'm feeling better now, except that annoying thing on my leg!

I hope this next year brings better health for me, I'm just starting to feel normal!

Dog Beach trip

My mom and dad have been taking me to the most fabulous place EVER!! The beach. There is so much to do there! The first time we went it was a Wednesday night, I had never seen so much water! I jumped right in and went hunting for fish and whatever else I could find. I was such a good boy, I stayed right by mom and I came when she called. It was GREAT!

We went back to the beach two weeks ago and well it was totally different. There were a ton of dogs, and LOTS of waves. So many waves in fact that the minute mom took my leash off I booked clear out of the dog beach and kept running. There were so many waves!!! I didn't even look up for a minute, I was going to get them ALL. Imagine mom's surprise that no one would help her grab me! My cute little face and people were running the opposite direction, must be my devilish good looks! Well about half a mile later mom finally got me and BOY WAS SHE MAD. All she kept saying was something about me being in trouble and wait until we get to daddy! I knew it was bad, she wouldn't even yell at me.

So there I was stuck on my leash, but daddy gave me once last chance! He took me out to the sandbar with Fudge and we played. Well I guess it was a little too much for daddy to handle, and well mom was about to yack up her lunch and so I just snuck on by and kept going to catch some waves... Mom and dad panicked! I was gone for awhile. I didn't realize how far I had gone, but a nice lifeguard kindly grabbed me and escorted me straight to my dad. Boy had I blown it. No more off leash play for me!

So we went back this past weekend, and boy was I hoping mom and dad would try that again, but they would have none of it. They even made me a special long lead so I could have some more freedom. I obliged mom on occasion by coming when she called, but I just get so excited that she decided for my safety that I should hang out with her, which is cool, cause we get some 1-1 time.

I had fun, but not nearly as much fun as running for miles catching all those waves... Some day I'll get 'em...
