Arrival Story:
My husband and I had adopted Bunny's brother, Beowulf, 3 years before as a puppy. Our original intention was to adopt another male mini, preferably black, and name him Grendel. We kept scouting the internet for minis to be rescued and came across Abandoned Pet Rescue in Ft Lauderdale, looking for volunteers to foster their latest rescue, a small female salt & pepper mini schnauzer (shelter name Bunny) who was due to be euthanized at County Animal Control. APR wanted to pick her up but their kennels were full and they had no open foster homes for a small dog. My husband and I called APR and told them we could take her in and foster her. They said they would pick her up from Animal Control and have their vet check her out. If she was not already spayed, they would do that too. We were to call back the next day to check the status and see when we could pick her up. We called the next day and were told that she was already spayed but since they had put her under anyway, they plucked her ears and cleaned her teeth which were in very bad shape but otherwise, she was in good health and all vaccinated and good to go. They also microchipped her and said we could come the next day to pick her up. We went to pick her up. She was a shaggy mess, but cute as can be and she was ready to go! I sat down to fill out some paperwork, and she jumped right in my lap as if to say, let's go! We took her home and she made herself right at home. It did not take long (about 3 days) before we knew she was here to stay, not just a foster. Although she was not a Grendel, we debated changing her name to something else. However, Bunny suited her so Bunny she remains.

Bio:
We do not know anything about Bunny's life before Animal Control picked her up. All we know is she was on the street and due to be put to sleep until we took her in. She can be defensive and aggressive toward Beowulf and sometimes her behavior makes us think she may have been abused at some point. Its comical when she acts like a *big dog* and we tease her and call her Vicious. But in general she is sweet, affectionate, and loving, and so very thankful toward me and my husband that it pains me to think about whoever threw her on the street. Thank goodness we were looking for Grendel because if we hadn't been.. Bunny might not be here today!! 7/25/09 Bunny the Great went to the rainbow bridge today. She will be missed more than I can begin to explain.
