Now that I'm in canine heaven, I love looking down on two twerps I lived with... knowing I'm the supreme Alpha Dog!!!!!
Well, my peeve used to be Tahzu, my annoying roommate. Now, it's that my heavenly truckoad of dog cookies never arrives early enough in the day!
Bagel loved "Woogie," an old, torn up wooly dog toy...
I LOVED those Iron Works beef ribs! Mommy and Daddy brought them to me from Austin. YUM!
Walking in our greenbelt, looking for squirrels, rabbits and the occasional coyote. It all smells good!
Bagel had a phenomenal yodel. He would sing deeply and sweetly...
We said goodbye to Bagel on December 23. His liver had been failing for a short while... and we told him that if he was ready to move on, we would support him all the way. :-) We know that he is now with Cleo, his true soulmate and fellow Basenji who went before him in 2001. They have been waiting quite awhile to be reunited. We are sure they are jousting and playing again as they did when they were still young pups. We loved Bagel so much. He will always be our No. 1 "Boo."
Bagel was once named "Alex." He was adopted by a couple who found him at the Dallas SPCA. They didn't know what they were getting when they adopted a rambunctious Basenji puppy. Within three weeks they put an ad in the paper for him. We saw the ad, called and went to meet Alex. It was love at first sight! We adopted him that morning. On the way home, I was holding the pup and I told my hubby I thought his tail looked like a bagel with cream cheese in the middle. At that moment, we knew Bagel would be a better name for him!
I am kinda grumpy, but my folks think maybe I had a rough start in life and that explains my temperament. All my parents know is that I came originally from the Dallas shelter. They don't know how I got there, whether I was abandoned and on my own as a little pup, or whether someone took me to the shelter. I've always been a mystery man, kind of a loner. Yeah, they'll neve know my secret past. Nevertheless, my parents love me a lot. I was their first Basenji, and despite my attitude they say I'm the reason they fell in love with the Basenji breed. Right on! Basenjis rule.
Even in Heaven, I'm in charge, y'all!
Favorite college football team::
Texas Longhorns. Hook 'em Horns!
Favorite good behavior reward::
Mom and Dad sometimes take us to Keller's or Sonic Drive-In in Dallas for a hot dog!
Favorite person other than my parents::
Our auntie Liska. She babysits us when our parents go on trips. Liska spoils us. She rules!
Out of Africa (the movie main theme)
Favorite troublemaking moment::
My uncle Mike came to visit us one weekend. For some reason I didn't like him at first. Maybe it was his beard.... anyway, he left his leather duffle bag on the floor, so I hiked my leg and peed on it. HAAAAAAA! Mike is easy-going...lucky for me and Mom....

Tiki tagged me, so now it's my turn!
(Hint: Copy and paste the rules so you don't have to type them again):
Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their diary the rules and their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!
My 7 Pawsome Facts!
1. I was born in the summertime, which is rare because most Basenjis are born in winter. Our biological moms generally come into season only once a year, in the fall.
2. I live with two BRAT rescues, Sheba and Tahzu. (Tahzu is an annoying little brother!)
3. Mom and Dad named me "Bagel" because when they rescued me from my previous parents, my tail was less tight then and it looked like a bagel with cream cheese in the middle (the white tip was in the middle of the hole).
4. I rarely yodel for the heck of it, but I will sing beautifully -- long, clear yodels, when prompted to do so.
5. I am great at hide and seek! I hide under my parents' bed, wait for someone to step up next to the bed, then stick my paw out from under the dust ruffle and grab their feet -- right before they shriek!
6. Some of my favorite junk foods are Cracker Barrel cheddar, all-beef hot dogs and vanilla cupcakes.
7. At the dog park, I go out of my way to find Huskies, and only Huskies -- the girls. I find them very attractive... I don't know why... must be the blue eyes and nice hair!
3. Chica Bella
4. Max Mattias
5. Rocky Bullboa

When we went to the vet recently, I was down to 34 pounds! YAY! That may sound like a lot for a Basenji, but I've always been a big guy and I used to weigh more. Mom sez she can see my waistline! What's a waistline?
She also sez if I weren't so lumpy (I have lots of harmless lipomas), I would be at least five pounds lighter. She calls me her sack o' taters because I kinda look like a bag of potatoes with all the lumps on me. Oh, that's SOOOOOO funny. Well, mom ain't no spring chicken, either...
She also calls me her sweet pumpkin because I'm burnt orange and I'm kinda round in places.... she must have her mind on fall foods because she calls skinny Sheba her "sweet yam" and Tahzu is her "sweet squash" (he's shorter-- get it?)!
This can only mean one other thing... that mom is out of her..... wait for it.... here it comes...... she's out of her gourd!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! A little Basenji humor.....
Got to run. Mom's calling her sack o' taters. I think I'm about to get some belly rubs!

Thanks, Dogster, for adding my diary to your daily pick of dog diaries! Dat is so kewl! I appreciate the props, y'all. A big shout out to all the other Dogster kids who got their diaries picked today, too!
FYI, the heat wave in Dallas has been broken! We got some rain last week and a bunch of rain on Sunday and Monday. Whew! We're African dogs, so we dig warm weather, but the last month or two has been RUFF. We're glad fall is coming and that we got some water on our lawn!
(Well, except for Sheba. She's fussy. She hates the rain. Something about messing up her quality fur.... jeez.)
Rock on, Dogster!
