 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: August 18th 2005
Likes: Playing in her puppy pool, running as fast as she can in the house, squeaking her squeaky toys, stealing dirty laundry, stealing shells out of the bowl on the back of the toilet, raiding the cat box, running in the grass, sleeping in the big bed

Pet-Peeves: loud noises, groups of young children, the vacuum cleaner, going outside to pee when it's raining, being dressed up (no sweaters or jackets for this dog!!) jealousy that the cat can get on the roof and she can't.

Favorite Toy: squeaky orange "evil cuz", any squeaky toy, mini tennis balls on a rope, bully sticks, small rocks, little spiky seed balls that fall on our deck, disgusting stuffed monkey that's bigger than her.

Favorite Food: chicken, soft boiled eggs, meat

Favorite Walk: The grassy field at the school up the road

Best Tricks: sit and stay, wait (at crosswalks), running through tunnel at agility class, plays a mean game of fetch and usually brings back the ball. Also, she uses a litter box.

Arrival Story: We weren't planning on getting a dog any time soon because we had just lost our beloved weenie dog, Oscar, 6 months earlier. Some friends of ours had gotten Mia (named Biskit by them), and were having a hard time integrating her into their household, because they already had 2 other dachshunds. Olive was the alpha of the household, and she felt threatened by Mia's presence in the house. They got in a tiff once, and Olive bit Mia's ear, which required a trip to the vet for stitches. Our friends decided that Olive and Mia would probably never get along, and decided to bring Mia Biskit in to meet me. I fell instantly in love, of course. Our friends decided that my partner Cindy and I would probably spoil her rotten, so on December 30th, they brought her to us, and we have had her ever since. Our friends get to see her occasionally, and Mia still loves them very much.

Bio: Mia loves other dogs, and even though she can be shy, she loves people too, once she gets to know them. People often stop us on the street when we're walking Mia and comment on her beauty and unusual markings. She's called a Piebald Dachshund, which is a recessive coloration trait, so it shows up less frequently. She has green eyes and a "liver" colored nose and lips. She loves her mommies! We learned a lot about Dachshunds with Oscar, and so we have been trying to be better with Mia's socialization. She's a really fun and sweet dog.

15 month old dachshund - peeing issues!

I may look like a dachshund, but I act more like a terrier! I can jump like a flea to counter height! When I'm ready to sleep, though, I cuddle up in the big bed and sleep all night long!

Mia can be really self-entertaining, which is a great, because frankly we just don't always have the energy to keep up with her! When we adopted her, she came with a big stuffed monkey toy that's bigger than her. It's horribly beat up by now, thanks to Mia's abuses. Frankly, it's disgusting, with bald patches and vacant, chewed-on eyes. She absolutely adores her monkey. She drags it all over the house, periodically humping it. Somehow she manages to hoist it's floppy arms and legs up onto the bed where she viciously shakes it, as if she's trying to break its neck. Recently, she's invented a brand new game. We call it "Animating the Monkey". She stands with one of her back legs hooked in the monkey's crotch, while she stands looking askance at it, as if trying to "catch it" doing something. Then she repeatedly kicks her leg, which shakes the monkey and makes it look like it's coming alive! Attack the monkey!!! We always crack up when she plays Animate the Monkey.

I can't believe I'll be a year old already next week! Moms say I'm in adolescence - I'm kind of lanky and devious. This weekend my moms promised that they would make me a soft boiled egg and some chicken to celebrate, and I'm hopefully going to see my first owner out in Sebastopol who gave me to mom and mom. I can't wait to see Paige - I'm so much bigger than the last time she saw me!
I had a bad spate recently of peeing on moms' pillows. That wasn't making them happy, but they foiled me by putting a thin plastic drop cloth on their bed when we're not sleeping in it. I guess they think they're pretty smart. It's working. I've been much, much better about going outside. Why am I peeing on moms' pillows? I wish I could tell you. Potty training just hasn't been my strongest point!
At least moms still love me more than anything in the world. No matter what I do, it seems they forgive me! What a lucky dog I am.

When I'm awake, everyone needs to get up. I don't care that it was only 5:30 and moms' day off when I woke up. I had to poo, and then I was ready to play, play, play!!! How come moms don't think it's adorable and funny when I get between them with the squeaky hedgehog and go SQUEAK! SQUEAK! SQUEAK!?
