Arrival Story:
I started volunteering at Elmbrook humane Society 3 years ago. I was a big cat fanatic, but as time went on, I became a dog fanatic and wanted a Husky. My mom wanted a small, shorthaired dog though. Over the summer of 2006, we decided on a Doxie (Dachshund) and started looking for a puppy. We almost gave up when my dad found an ad in the Madison newspaper for 2 little Doxie pups. We called the woman who owned them and we went to check them out. There was 1 male and 1 female. My mom wanted a female and the male was already adopted. She turned out to be the perfect dog for our family. She is soooo cute and loving and Sasha and I quickly develpoed a very strong bond, she will cry if I even leave the room, or walk past the driveway when I come home if she's out!

I went with mom to a pet costume party/contest on Tuesday at Petsmart. Guess what I was? A LOBSTER!!!! Mom says I looked ridiculously cute. I didn't win the contest, but another doxie took 3rd, and one man said I was the winner in his eyes!! awwww... Guess what else we saw? A HORSE!! they tried bringing him inside, but he had his shoes on and almost faltered, so they took him back outside before I could see it. Mom was with EBHS (Elmbrook humane society) and had 2 beagles with her, and they barked, and barked and barked. they were at the front of the store and mom could hear them from inside the bathroom in the back corner of the store!!! It was fun!, but tiring. I slept from seven until bedtime (10) and slept all night!

Lure Coursing and Wag Fest!

Mom volunteers at Elmbrook Humane Society and they had their annual Wag Fest (aka: Wag Walk) yesterday. Mom and her dad were working with the lure coursing giving dogs scores and stuff. Later in the day I came and mom really wanted me to try it, so i got in an insanely long line (it was like that all day) and waited my turn. I had trouble waiting patiently though, I'd never done it before so I had no idea what it was. I caught on as the other doggies took their turns and it was like chasing leaves in the backyard [whenever thay twitch] only a little bigger, a lot faster and no leash! The really good dogs were italian greyhounds, retrivers... those sorts. When everyone saw me, a little tiny dachshund, they started giggling and laughing at me thinking I was so small and couldn't do it. Mom took me into the center of the wire (the lure was a plastic grocery bag, oh boy!) took off my leash and the man mom was helping started the chase. I ran faster than I'd ever run before, I wanted that bag! Everyone was REALLY impressed. Mom was sooo proud of me. The man she was helping does lure coursing all over the nation so he knows how to do it right and which breeds are ideal and things like that, so I thought it was really cool I impressed him! Before I ran he said where's the other half of that dog? humph, I showed them!!

New Collar!

I got a brand new collar! I've had the same collar since I was a little 8 week old puppy. This one is red and it's a martingale collar. I'm not sure what that means, but they use them at the humane society mom volunteers at.

So, my mom starts school tomorrow, but I won't have to be in my crate all day until she comes home, because her mom doesn't have to work on Tuesday or Wednesday, so it will be a while until I have to spend half my day in a crate, longing for someone, other than the cat, to come and play...
