Mommy's Socks

I love my mommy's socks. Mommy thinks I am weird, but whenever she leaves her socks where I can see them, I steal them and take them to my crate! Sometimes when mommy isn't looking, I sneak into her bedroom and take her socks out of her laundry basket. My favorite is when she leaves her socks inside of her shoes at the top of the stairs and I just run upstairs grab a sock and I hide it in my crate before Mommy even knows what happened.

Mommy tried to see if I would take Daddy's socks, but I don' t like his. Just mommy's.

Criminal Behavior

I've been getting into a little bit of trouble lately at the house. Mommy makes me wear this stupid harness thing so that she can attach my leash when it's time to go for a walk. I don't like having weird things attached to my body! Doesn't mommy know I want to be free. Well, when mommy is at work, I just chew off my harness. I do it every single day. Sometimes mommy tries to trick me by taking off the harness when she leaves for work. Well, daddy never remembers to take it off, so as soon as he leaves it on, I destroy it! That will show them now to try to restrain me!

Mommy also likes me to wear a leash when I'm in the house. Something about she wants me to get used to wearing a leash. Well, I don't like that either. Who wants a four foot piece of nylon following them everywhere? Not me, so I chew that off, too!

Mommy told daddy she would try to use some kind of bitter apple stuff on my leash and harness so I won't chew it. I don't care, I still chew through that nasty stuff. Nothing is worse than being held back. Mommy needs to just let me be free.

I think mommy is getting frustrated. Especially since yesterday she was looking all over the house for her socks and then she found them in my crate. I couldn't help it, the socks smelled like mommy and mommy was too busy to pay attention to me, so I just took the socks to my house!

Mommy thinks I'm a little trouble maker. I don't mean to make her mad, I just don't understand why she makes me wear these things. I don't know how my brother Milo does it. And he has all that fur. All that fur and he wears a harness? He must be miserable!

Well, nobody is gonna hold me back. Next time mommy makes we wear a harness or leash, I'm gonna steal her favorite shoes!

No More Stinky Pup!

Today mommy took me for my first professional grooming. I was very afraid when she left me there. I cried and begged mommy not to leave me. My brother Milo was very brave. He didn't even care. I think he had been there before. I wasn't sure if mommy was coming back, so I cried.

Mommy and daddy had been calling me "Stinky Pup" all week. I guess I smelled kinda bad since I had been at a shelter for so long. Mommy couldn't bathe me until I got my stitches out from my surgery. As soon as I was healed mommy took me to the beauty salon.

The grooming people were very nice to me. They cleaned my ears, brushed my teeth, clipped my nails and gave me a bath. When mommy picked me up, she couldn't believe how much better I smelled! Grandma and daddy said that they used to think I was beige, but now they can see that my fur is white. I guess I really was a stinky pup.

Now that I smell better, my brother is being nice to me. He even let me get close to him in the car on the way home.

I'm glad mommy an daddy are taking good care of me. I hope my brother keeps being nice to me!

How I Became a Princess

I'm only a year and a half old, but my life has already been quite challenging. I was born on February 14, 2005 and I spent the first year of my life in a crate at what humans would call a "puppy mill". In February 2006 (the same week that my mommy and daddy adopted my brother Milo from the Delaware SPCA) I was taken from the puppy mill and placed in a shelter. Lots of doctors took care of me and 5 months later I was ready to find a real home.

Prior to my rescue from the puppy mill, I never learned about nice humans or where to go potty, or even what it felt like to be loved. But things have changed.

When my new mommy and daddy learned that the Delaware SPCA was going to have some papillons for adoption, my mommy got very excited and convinced daddy that my big brother Milo needed a playmate. Mommy and daddy came to see me at the shelter and they brought Milo with them to make sure we'd get along. Milo didn't really want to play, but mommy fell in love with me and even daddy cracked a smile. They brought me home on Monday, July 3rd, just in time for the Fourth of July fireworks.

Mommy and daddy decided to name me "Zelda", after daddy's favorite video game. Mommy thinks I'm a princess just like Zelda in the game.

I've been at my new home for 3 days now. The first 2 nights were very scary because there were lots of loud fireworks outside. My new big brother Milo and I were afraid and we cried most of the night. I'm glad we don't have fireworks every night!

Mommy is very happy that I am learning the rules of the house. I sit on the kitchen floor with my brother and watch mommy cook dinner. Daddy and mommy take me for walks with my brother and I'm already learning how to walk on a lead! I am even learning where I should pee pee (NOT in my crate).

Mommy is taking me to the doctor tomorrow and next week I get my sutures removed from my spaying surgery. I can't wait until I'm all well because I want to play with my brother! I think he's starting to like me.

That's all for now. Maybe when mommy has some time she can help me write another diary entry!

Love,
Zelda
