Arrival Story:
Gracie was close to a year old when I got her. I decided to get a small dog, so I looked in the classifieds and came across an ad for "terrier puppies" that weighed about 15 lbs. (Which is funny, because Gracie is not a terrier and she weighed about 25 lbs!) She sounded cute, so I called to make an appointment for a visit. The present owner told me that she had gotten out of the backyard and he had to catch her. That almost deterred me from going to meet her. Thank God I did, because she was sleeping in a cold garage on a thin, little rug. Her food wasn't even in a bowl, they just threw it down to her. There was no water, and nowhere to go to the bathroom if she needed to. There was gasoline and oil all over the floor, no windows, and no ventilation. I also found out that she was abused. Needless to say, I demanded her leash and said, "Either she leaves with me or I am calling the authorities." No wonder she tried to run away. She is a good girl, and so very special to me.
