Booring Weekend

It was cold and rainy this weekend and I had nothing to do. I kept wanting to go outside to play but whenever I would convice daddy to go I couldn't understand why no other dogs were outside. Daddy gave me 2 new bones and a big cookie to try to keep me entertained but I didn't want those. I just left them alone and kept whining at the door. Also Daddy was sick so I had to try extra hard to convince him to go outside. Finally Sunday we ran into some other dogs and I got to play with them. The weekend was pretty boring but it looks like Daddy's staying home from work today. He's coughing and sniffing. Now if I can only get him off the computer that's linked to his work maybe I can talk him into taking me outside.

Hiking at Amicalola Falls State Park

This past weekend daddy loaded me in the car and drove to Amicalola Falls in North Georgia. I was really excited to get to go in the car. When we got to the park there were all sorts of new smells in the air. It didn't smell like city smells. I hiked all the way up the falls and I met some nice people who petted me and met some nice dogs. The trail up wasn't verry crowded and I loved the peace and quiet. We took a different way down. There were alot of steps going down and it was crowded. I don't like crowds very much and I was a little antsy. Daddy made sure we took some breaks away from the crowds to relax a bit. Some doggies tried to come up to me while I was resting and I didn't like that very much. I get real defensive towards dogs sometimes especially around crowds I don't know. After we finished down the falls. We took another trail. This one was nice and quiet. There were very few people on this trail and I met some nice doggies and wanted to play but daddy didn't let me because the trail was too narrow. We got back to the car and I loaded in and slept the entire ride back. Daddy said we'll go hiking again and stick to trails he knows are not crowded. I sure can't wait.

How to properly chase a squirrel

People who know me know that I am a professional squirrel chaser. It's taken alot of training but I got it down to a science.

Step one, find a squirrel. Make sure it's a squirrel and not a bird. Bird cheat, when you run up to them they just fly away out of reach. It's hard to see them at first but you have to keep a close eye out and check for movements. If something moves, keep an eye on it.

Step two, make sure the squirrel isn't close to a tree. If they're standing next to a tree, don't bother wasting your time with it. They'll run up the tree the first time they see you.

Step three, keep real low to the ground and walk slowly up to it. Be sure to keep an eye on them and if they see you stay real still.

Step four, when you're close enough start running and stay low!!! If you properly followed the above steps by the time the squirrel sees you you're already at full speed.

Step five, when the squirrel runs up the tree run back to daddy for a cookie. The photo above with the huge tonge was taken by daddy's camera phone after I sucessfully chased a squirrel up a tree. I'm waiting for my cookie.

The trick is to reach your top speed before the squirrel sees you. If you do this then you can easily catch them. I've caught a few but I've never killed one. What's the fun in that? I'd rather let them live so the next time I see them we can play chase again.

I was playing in the park yesterday with my dog friends. I was wrestling with by friend Bruge when my back leg slipped in a drainage grate and I twisted it. It hurt real bad and I didn't want to put weight on it. Since we walk to the park we had to catch a ride back to our house. Daddy picked me up and carried me to Bruge's house so Bruge's daddy could drive us back to our house. I didn't mind daddy carrying me because my leg really hurt. Once home daddy loaded me in his car and took me to the vet. Our regular vet was already closed so we went to the Ansley Animal Clinic. They were closing up but they told daddy they would stay open for us. The nice people there examined me and there were no broken bones or other serious injury. I just had a cut on my leg. They bandaged me up and gave me some antibiotics and pain medice to take. I just have to take it easy this weekend. Next week I should be back to my old self. Those squirrels better be ready.

Back Story

For my first entry I'll tell you how I ended up in my home. My mom and my 3 other siblings were abandoned around Lake Alatoona north west of Atlanta around Dec 2001. One day in Jan 2002 my siblings and I were found by a little girl and taken back to her home to show her mommy the cute puppies. When my mommy found out we were missing she tracked us down and waited outside for us. The little girl’s older sister came to visit the next day and took us to the Bartow County Humane Society. A few days later the older sister decided she would foster us to find new homes. When she came to pick us up some guy came with her. He held me and I pooped on his jacket. He thought it was funny but I was really scared of him at first. Next thing I remember I was in his car away from my mom & siblings. I cried for the entire ride. He took me to this big house with slippery floors. I went and hid behind his sofa and kept an eye on him. Eventually I realized he wasn’t that bad. In fact he’s pretty nice. Fast forward 3 years later and life is pretty good. He walks me to the park to play with my dog friends and chase squirrels. At home I get to relax in a big recliner. Life’s good, except when it’s bathtime.
