Arrival Story:
My husband's brother had a co-worker that was moving, and he wasn't able to take Zena with him. My husband loves to bird hunt so here we go again with another bird dog. Zena by far is/was the best bird dog ever! She isn't afraid of anything... one time we were all in the back yard (and at the time we had chickens... and if you know anything about chickens you know that you end up attracting other critters, such as opossums, rats and snakes) Well, that one afternoon, Zena was going crazy barking at one of the chicken pens. She was pulling and tugging at the pen. What we found out was she was pulling on a big ole rattlesnake. She had it half way through the chicken wire, but the snake was pretty fat since it just ate some chicks for dinner. The snake struck her nose and left a fang, so now we were in a panic rushing to the vet. She survived the snake (her head & neck swelled up & she drowled like crazy - yuk!) but she never was the same afterwards. She doesn't smell real well and she has gone almost blind. She knows her yard real well, but we have to be careful when letting her out because she will run into things.

Zena is blind, but sometimes you just wouldn't know it. When we go to our place, we like to take Zena with us. She just loves it there and thinks she is in doggy "heaven". We have a pond there, and we like to throw rocks in the water. Zena will dive in and eventually find that rock and drag it back out. It is great fun to watch her. We are also in the process of building a cabin. The one picture posted of paw prints with Zena was here... is actually part of the lumber in the construction.... She is lots of fun!
