The female human "Cathy" likes to eat yogurt in the morning. Her physiology and tools are not adapted to get all of the yogurt out of the carton, so she gives it to me.
When I have used my physiology and tools to extract all of the contents, I bring the carton to her in exchange for a treat. (She does not like me to collect these cartons in my stash.)
I have modified this behavior. If she leaves the carton where I can reach it, I can retrieve it and return it to her in exchange for another treat.
If I do not release the carton to her, I can (through eye contact and gestures) get her to follow me and specify the type of treat I want. Sometimes she is a little slow to understand, but through patience and repetition I have trained her to dispense two types of treats located in two different stash locations.
I recommend this training regimen to any dog. It is very easy and effective.
I will continue to record other behaviors and training methods.
