Arrival Story:
Last year, after 20 years of not having a dog, I finally overcame all reservations. I researched Lab breaders in the Western New York area and with the help of the gods, picked the best puppy in the world. I named him Argos after the legendary hunting dog of Odysseus (Ulysses) in Homer's Odyssey. When the hero of the Trojan war returned home after 20 years or war and wandering, he found his loyal dog still waiting his return. Argos immediately recognized his master even though the gods had disguised him as an old beggar. Free from his long duty of waiting his master's return, Argos passed on. The mighty warrior struggled to hide his tears to keep from giving away his identity. So after two decades of wandering without a canine companion, I gave my new pup the name Young Argos with hope of having 20 years of wonderful adventures with my faithful companion. The first 15 months, he has certainly lived up to his glorious name.

Bio:
My hope for Argos is to have him become a wonderful example of what Labrador Retrievers can be. Dogs of this marvelous breed love to work and can excel in a wide variety of duties, from hunting, to guiding deaf or blind people, to rescuing lost children, finding cadavers, sniffing out illegal drugs or explosives, and of course, being the best darn family member a dog can be. Just 15 months old, Argie has already earned five titles: companion dog (CD), rally novice (RN), canine good citizen (CGC), rally advanced (RA), and therapy dog (TDI). We are now also training in agility and tracking, both of which he is excelling at and loves to do. We have volunteered for the Therapy Dog program at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo and hope to begin visiting patients there in a few weeks.
