Arrival Story:
I was looking for a big dog to be a friend to my other big dog, Bogart, and saw Belle on a local pound website. I went and got her, and it took her several weeks to adjust to her new home; sometimes I think she is still adjusting, although I've had her for about 18 months now.

Belle is a very sweet dog, but she is definitely my dog and doesn't care much for others. Since her best friend, Bo, died, she has had a hard time adjusting and doesn't like to be away from me.

The Day with the Pear Tree

Dear Doggie Diary,

It's been a long time since I've written you, but boy, has it been busy!! I live such an exciting doggie life!!

Last weekend, my mama's cousin and her husband came to visit. I liked Lisa, but Paul is a big guy and he frightened me, so I had to bark at him when he first got there to show him I'm the boss. But, then, he pulled treats out of his pocket and gave them to me (I think my mama gave them to him first), and I didn't even have to do any tricks for them, either!! We were good friends after that. I even let him scratch my tummy.

I would've gotta even more attention, but my annoying little brother Milo had to get in on the action, too. He's such a ham and wants all the attention for himself.

Yesterday, my mama worked in the backyard all day, so I got to eat pears off the pear tree. For some reason, my mama fusses at me whenever I eat the pears; she says they aren't ripe yet (what does that mean?); all I know is they taste good to me, but boy, did I get in trouble...Mama says I ate too many of them yesterday because I had gas all night last night.

A Day With the New Toys

Dear Doggie Diary,

Well, it's been 100 degrees again this week here in Texas, so mommy lets me stay inside in something called the air conditioning; she says I don't need to be outside when it's too hot because I have too much hair. I keep wondering why my mommy doesn't move us somewhere cooler, but she says it's because she has a good job here in Dallas; I wonder if her job is like my job? Does she go somewhere else and eat, sleep, play, and poop all day?

I did get to go outside tonight with Milo, my little brother, to play tonight, though. Mommy bought us new toys...they are balls, but not just ANY balls. They squeak, squeak, squeak. I love to squeak them, but not like Milo...mommy says he is obsessesed with squeaky toys, but he is just a baby still.

UH-OH Gotta go...I hear mommy fussing at Milo for chewing on the coffee table AGAIN. Don't want to miss this!!!!! He's gonna be in trouble...

The day with the Yorkshire Terrier

Dear Doggie Diary,

It has been a busy few 'grandma' and her 'baby' have been at MY house since Thursday, and I am exhausted from all the excitement. Mama says the 'baby' is called a Yorkshire Terrier and is supposed to be a dog, but I am confused; I didn't know dogs could look and sound so much like squeaky toys. At first I thought the 'dog' was a rat, and I tried to hurt it....BOY, did I ever get in trouble for that! NOTE TO SELF: learn what rats look and smell like.

I also got really mad today. Mama lets me stay inside because she says I am an "escape artist," whatever that means, but Grandma put me in the backyard. Boy...I certainly showed them that I am pure genius. See, diary, my doghouse has a flat roof and is up against my Mama's 6 ft privacy fence...well, today I climbed up on the doghouse roof and then jumped over into the neighbor's yard...but, oops, I couldn't figure my way out of their yard, but I couldn't get back to MY yard, either. My mama had to come and rescue me. My mama fussed at me, but she also talked to my grandma about how smart I am.

Well, diary, it's now bedtime, and my mama is going to sleep; I have to go get in her bed to keep her safe...there's no place like home.
