I know we're not supposed to, but Sammy was my favorite of all my babies. I was looking for a puppy and went to the Humane Society in my city. I walked up to the puppy corral and looked at all those wiggling bodies and asked them who was going home with me? Sammy looked up at me, walked over to the side and sat down waiting for me to pick him up. He rode in the car everywhere with me and never left my side.
You may be noticing I'm speaking past tense. I am also doing this from the human perspective as Sammy is no longer with us. He got hit by a car Sept 5, 2008 and I'm still crying as I write this. Lady and Roscoe miss him but I miss him more.
The next day, I was getting gas (life does go on I'm afraid) and an Airedale female puppy had been dropped at the convenience store. She walked up to me as I was getting gas. She followed inside and outside the store. Set with me in the rain as my son changed the steering wheel cover for me. That kind of dedication had to be rewarded, so I took her home.
I know Sammy sent her to me, because she is so much like him. A lot of his little quirks are also hers. And they're quirks none of my other dogs have. It makes not having my best friend a little easier. Her name is Arielle and I will add her soon, but not yet--I'm still grieving for Sammy but it gets a little easier every day.
