Arrival Story:
I met Maizie via my Dachshund group, Dachshund Daze. Her breeder is a member, and she posted pix of Maizie and her siblings when they were born. I've always wanted a choc/tan doxie, and started emailing back & forth with Neva about the pup with the "stubby" tail. Maizie was born with a deformed tail and it had to be amputated. Anyway, I have friends in Tx (I'm from NY) and Neva lives in Tx. In April I flew to Tx and met Neva and Maizie for the first time. Neva had sent pix of Maizie from the time she was born, so it was like she was always mine. I named her Maizie cuz it's one of my all time favorite names.

Bio:
Maizie started alerting to my low and high bloodsugars shortly after she came home with me. I didn't realize at first why she would paw at me, nip and my nose, chin and ears and cry... but soon I realized that whenever she did this, I'd start feeling shaky and would test my bloodsugar. Sure enough, it would be either very high or very low. I contacted Dogs 4 Diabetics to ask if it's rare for some dogs to naturally alert without having scent training... they said 1 in 1500 dogs naturally alert, and that Maizie is a "keeper"! But I knew that already.
