I'm doing so good these days! I do have to go in soon for an x-ray on my leg and back, but I'm sure it will be ok. I just found out that Lucy Lu is going to be staying with us for a while. Should be interesting... I do like her very much.

New Problem

Mom took me to the vet the other day because I had been hacking and coughing every time Alfie and I would play or when I got excited about anything. I have a collapsed trachea and am now taking medication for that. The vet wants to start easing me off to see how I do, so we'll see. Mom also talked with the vet about my left knee; that I'm walking with a bit of a limp now and seem to be in a little distress after a walk or playing with Alfie. The vet told her that he doesn't want to do surgery because it hasn't been that long since I've been off the prednisone for IMHA. He wants to give it a year to see how I do before he considers doing the surgery. I really have been unlucky in the whole gene pool thing... but I love my family, especially my mom. I follow her everywhere and if she isn't feeling good some days I just hunker down next to her. She calls me her sweet Monty boyfriend and helps me when I can't jump down or up because of my bad knee. Other than that, I'm fine and in good spirits. Hope all is good with all my furiends here!

Mom has been out in the yard ALL THE TIME building something, so I go out with her. That's why I haven't been on Dogster for a while... So, here I am and doing great still! Mom is still checking my gums everyday and watching me very closely. Alfie and I have become great friends, we play together all the time! I really do like the little guy... Mom and Dad were talking about possibly adopting him; that would be COOL! I think about all of you often, especially those of you that supported me through my IMHA. I love you guys! I'll be back on with Mom so she can help send some rosettes to each of you, just to let you guys know you're all WONDERFUL! Bye for now my friends.

Ok, I like the little guy, Alfie. I've taught him how to lift his leg when he goes potty 'cause I was really embarrassed watching him squat like a girl... He and I have been playing chase in the yard, it's so much fun. I get tuckered out after a while 'cause he has so much energy and wants to keep playing. He's learning not to jump all over me when he gets excited about playing so I'm ok to play with him now. He is sweet and smart too. oh, he loves to take things he finds into his bed; he even pulled a little area rug into his bed!

I'm feeling good! It has been a little over a week since I've been off the prednizone and I'm still doing good. Mom checks my gums everyday to make sure they are nice and pink and is still watching me like a hawk. Alfie is so full of energy! He is always bugging me to play with him and sometimes I do; it's just too tempting not to with all his playful energy. He is a little mischievous, likes to grab anything he can reach or get to and take it to his bed. Mom and Dad are always going to his bed to check for things he shouldn't have and putting them back. It's a sunny day today so I'm going to play outside now.

Today the Dr. called about my blood test. My blood count is GOOD!! The PCR test for tick borne diseases came back negative for 11 of the most common ones. I don't have to take sterioids anymore!! I'm so happy!! I go back in the end of May for another blood test just to make sure everything is still normal. We went to the big park today and had a wonderful time. Life is good!

I went to the Dr.'s today, but didn't get a blood test. Mom and the vet were talking about some test for tick borne diseases, they decided they were going to do a new test called the PCR test, it can detect DNA of any foreign bodies within my system. Since they have to draw blood for this test I'll be going in next Wednesday so they can do both at the same time. I did get some meds. for pink eye; guess I have pink eye in my right eye. The doctor said I looked good and that he wants to keep me on prednisone until he gets the "tick borne disease test " results back from the lab. Should be around the end of next week. I'm really happy that they didn't have to poke me today.

Here is some info. about the PCR test:

What is the DNA-PCR test?

The letters PCR stand for polymerase chain reaction. The DNA-polymerase chain reaction or DNA-PCR is a highly specialized diagnostic test that is used to identify the presence of specific DNA in a sample.

How is DNA-PCR used in veterinary medicine?

The most common use for DNA-PCR in veterinary medicine is detecting the presence of infectious organisms, such as viruses, bacteria, and some types of parasites. Less commonly, DNA testing is used to determine parentage, and also to search for genes responsible for inherited diseases.

Is DNA-PCR a good test?

The DNA-PCR is excellent test for many reasons, but especially for its ability to find extremely small numbers of infectious organisms - sometimes a single strand of DNA is all that is needed for the test to be positive. Furthermore, it a superior test for detecting infectious organisms, especially those that are difficult to detect by other methods.

Can the DNA-PCR test be wrong?

Any diagnostic test can be wrong - no test is perfect. The DNA-PCR is a technically demanding procedure, and errors may occur. However, the error rate is extremely small; in qualified laboratories, the potential for error is minimized through the use of stringent protocols and highly trained professionals. The enormous diagnostic power that DNA-PCR offers greatly outweighs any of its weaknesses, and provides veterinarians with an invaluable tool in the battle against infectious disease.

Not sure what's going on with MOM these days. We have another stranger in our house, again. This time it's a male, and to make matters even more interesting, he's a BABY boy. Yup, 10 months old full of energy and excitement at everything new and old, doesnt' matter he's very dramatic... I think she expects me to be the big brother role model, well, I just ignore him or growl softly when he gets a little to excited around me. He is very cute and seems to be sweet too. I just need some more time with this.

To bring you up to date with my health, I'm still doing really well! I'm currently taking 1/2 a pill every four days and I'm not as swollen as I was a few weeks ago. I go in for another blood test the end of this month; anxious to know what the outcome will be.

Well today I took my steroid for the "once every four day" dosage. I did really well not having it for 4 days, so mom was really happy. I'm happy too that I don't have to take them as often as I have been taking them. Little Lucy Lou is doing ok, and I kinda like her she is very sweet and doesn't bother me unless she acts like she wants to play and I'm not ready to play with her yet, maybe soon.

My mom talked to my Dr. yesterday about me, she told him I seem to be doing good and wanted to know when I need to go in for my next blood test. I need to go in for a blood test the last week in April, since I'll be almost done with me meds. On the subject of Lucy our new foster girl, well, not sure what to think of her. At first she was real quiet and stayed in the bed mom gave her. Now she acts really happy all the time and follows MY mom everywhere. Not sure I like that...
