Arrival Story: Amber was rescued by the Houston SPCA Animal Cops. She was being kept by an animal hoarder and looked like she had been used for breeding. Once she was allowed to be released she was rescued by Weimaraner rescue od Nort Texas. I was lucky enough to be chosen as her foster mom. Amber had a severe cas of heartworms plus numerous other problems. The vet said we had to get her healthy enough to go thru heartworm treatmenst so we nursed her back to health and spoiled her rotten along the way. Her first treatment went great. We took her home and kept her calm for 30 days then had about a week that she could have some fun before we went back for round 2. During that time she shoot a segment for Animal Planets Animal Cops Houston (it never aired). We took her back for treatment two. Again everything went great. She was alot spunkier this time and we were worried about keeping her calm. Unfortanetly about a week after her second treatment we woke up one morning and she wasn't filling well, her gums were white. She didn't have the energy walk and would barely lift her head. I rushed her to the vets where they put her on IV's and ran numerous test. Her body was not creating enough red blood cells. We took her home with some meds with hopes we could get her count up. We fed her steak and loved on her alot. She made it thru night one and we had hoped we were out of the woods. The next night at about 1am she collapsed we got her in the car to take her to the ER vet, she died in my arms on the way there. We lost our sweet girl on May 6th 2005. She touched our lives in so many ways. She will never be forgotten.
Bio: Amber had the most beautiful Amber eyes (that's how she got her name). She was an old sole. She was sweet and loved to snuggle but she also had her crazy side. When we were filming the spot for animal cops we were trying to get her to look at the comera by holding a bag of treats under it. She got a hold of the bag and was so happy. She ripped the bag open and ran all over my friend Bobbie's back yard wagging her tail and smiling with her beautiful eyes.
