Birthday: April 14th 2002 Likes: Being in the middle of conversations, action Pet-Peeves: Getting his paws and ears touched! Favorite Toy: his bone Favorite Food: grand marnier, cheese, peppermints, pretty much anything Favorite Walk: anywhere he can see people Best Tricks: laying on mommy so she moves so he can have the inside of the sofa Arrival Story: I read about Redman in the newspaper. He was 5 months old and already had 3 owners. I went to see him and he was tied to a porch with no water. I walked up and he humped my leg. I gave the guy 250.00 because I couldn't say no to this dog!!! Bio: The last few months Redman had gradually became more tired. He was ill for a few days and getting him to eat became very difficult. You see, in order for him to get his insulin, he had to eat and if he did not eat, he couldn’t get his insulin and so on. I took him to the vet’s on Tuesday evening during the snow storm and they took x-rays because I was afraid he swallowed part of a toy. There was nothing in his gastrointestinal tract, but his pancreas and liver were enlarged. He had pancreatitis again. I was not shocked at the diagnosis. I thought they would just give him some fluids and regulate his insulin and send him home. The vet gave me no indication of alarm either. On Wednesday evening on my way home, the vet called and said his body temperature was dropping and we could either wait and see how he would do, move him to the University of Penn for extensive testing or euthanize him. I was already on my way to the office to visit him, so I was able to discuss the options with Dr. Julie in person. She said the pancreatitis had compromised most of his organs. I really did not want to euthanize him, so I asked her how much time he had left. She told me about 24 hours and he may go into seizures and he was already in significant pain from the pancreatitis. I laid with him in the crate and he cried. I told him how much I appreciated everything he had done for me and how he had watched over me through everything over the past few years. I told him how much I loved him and to say hi to Petey when he got to the other side. I waited for Bessy and my husband to arrive and we all stayed with him as Dr. Julie put him to sleep and he passed into the next world. While I laid on the floor with him, I prayed to God thanking him for such a spirited, funny guardian angel and thanked God for making his passing peaceful. I whispered to him to make sure he visits me in my dreams so I can at least see him from time to time. This is the first time I had done that after putting an animal to sleep. I was overwhelmed with grief and loss, but thanked God for just allowing me to know him.
He will be cremated and placed on my bureau next to his brother. Forums Motto: Hell hath no fury like a pitbull scorned The Groups I'm In: NJ Bullies I've Been On Dogster Since:
We just found out that Redman has diabetes. He is currently in the vet's office undergoing glucose studies. I miss my little baby so much. But there is an up side, he should be home for Christmas!!!
