Arrival Story: Rusty is by all best guesses a Dachshund /Rough Coated Jack Russell Terrier mix. We found Rusty sitting beside a highway, out in the middle of nowhere. My roommate and I were returning home from visiting her parents. We came upon this little pup, looking lost and exhausted, sitting right on the shoulder of the highway. We couldn't believe what we were seeing as we drove by, and turned the car around and went back. He was afraid at first, and wouldn't come to us. A couple of men passing by stopped and told us he had been around there for quite awhile, and they thought he had been dumped. They said they had called the police, but they said they wouldn't come out to do anything about it.
So , we were then determined to find a way to help this little pup. It took some time and a lot of coaxing, but we finally managed to gain his trust, and he let us pick him up. He was so exhausted from his ordeal, as soon as my roomate sat in the car with him, he collapsed in her arms and went to sleep.
Well, to make a long story short, after making all attempts to find out if he had an owner anywhere looking for him, we found none. ANd by that time it was sort of a good thing for us, because we had fallen totally in love with the little mutt. Since that time he has gotten established with a local vet, has had check ups, all of his shots, neuter, microchip implanted... the whole nine yards. Rusty is now home to stay with us, and we love him like he's our little kid.

Bio: Rusty is a sweet, busy, mischievous little boy. Sometimes a challenge, but always my little buddy. His personality is ALL terrier...That's why we often call him "Mr. Man".....Because he often has a bit of the "Little Man" complex. He lives to hunt any small, furry critters....Squirrels being his favorite. It's pretty much all he thinks of, when he's not outside and on the trail of something, he is sitting in his little bed, watching out the window, keeping an eye on the neighborhood.

Well, its a Wednesday today, so I'm off to Doggy Daycare. Since mom has to work, and I get anxious and freak out a bit if I'm alone for too long of time. It works out pretty good for me, though---- I have a lot of friends at daycare. There's my little girlfriend Mia.....she's cute! Just my size, with pretty white fur and all. Yowza!! And then there's Mr. Bean....he's still a pup, and growing bigger all the time---fun to play with though. And then their's Daisy....she is a really BIG gal!!! A Newfoundland...really a sweetheart though. And there's Zelda...she's an older dachshund. Kinda bossy and thinks she's running things...but an okay gal. And then there's my pal Toby.....he's my hardcore play buddy! He's a shelty, so he likes to run and play like a maniac like me!
The daycare lady says I'm a non-stop playing machine, all day long...she says I go from dog to dog, playing with them until their pooped, then move on to the next dog. I guess I'm sort of like everyone's personal trainer, keeping everyone exercised and fit! I used to come home really exhausted every day, which mom liked becuase I would sack out and not bug her for awhile in the evenings....but I've built up my endurance now!! I can go all day at daycare and STILL have enough gas left to pester mom in the evening!

Wow! My own journal! I've never really thought about doing something like this before, but I'll give it a shot!
SO anyway,my name is Rusty..... at least that's what my name has been since my new mom's picked me up on that highway last spring. I sort of forget what my name was before that.....but that's okay. Rusty will do. Besides.... I've found that answering to it REALLY pays off with these people that I live with now! They'll give me just aobut anything if I come running and act all cute and wiggly when they call it!
So, here's how it is with me. From what I can figure out, my job is to pretty much act cute, eat my food, chew on my toys, and sleep. Personally, I truly believe my purpose here on earth is to keep track of ALL squirrels, and most importantly, make sure they stay out of EVERYONE'S yard! I don't think my mom understands the full depth of importance of this---- Oh, sure....she let's me chase an ocassional squirrel up a tree and laughs at how cute and determined I am.....but I'm pretty sure she doesn't get how critical and important of a job I have! But, hey......like I said, life's not so bad being me! I just really have a hard time forgetting about those stupid squirrels, out there running all over the place like they own it or something!!Why----there oughta be a law!!!!
I like going to my grandma's house. She has lots of squirrels, and one crazy one. I'm serious....certifiably insane! Or just really stupid....I'm not positive which. But what is for sure, is that this squirrel is a real kick to chase. I mean, he forgets what to do when I chase him! See, what I do is sit by the backyard window and watch until I see a squirrel come in and head for the birdfeeder. My grandma hates when the squirrels get into her birdfeeder! So as soon as I see one, I run to the door, dash out into the yard, and chase them right back up the tree they came from! But crazy squirrel.....he forgets! He just sits there until I'm almost to him, then he remembers "Oh, crud!! Dog!!".....and then he jumps straight up, does back flips, runs round and round in circles, does bank shots off the fence....until finally, he remembers "Oh, yeah!! Run up the tree!!!"
Not too bright...but fun to chase!
So there's part of what it's like to be me! I'll add more as the days go by. See you for now!
