Arrival Story:
We adopted Sasha as a companion for our Boxer girl, Kelsey. Sasha was about 13 months old and her family had allowed her to be hit by a car. Instead of getting medical care for her, they let her suffer until they dumped her at a shelter. Thank God for Kelli Darland of Central Kentucky Boxer Rescue. She got Sasha out of the shelter before she was euthanized (just in time), and got her to a vet. Sasha's leg injury was too old and her leg was too badly damaged to save it, so it was amputated. Sasha quickly learned to balance and navigate (she can spin on a dime) and most people don't notice she hasn't got a left front leg for a while. Sasha is a little aggressive with other dogs. She wants everyone to know that she is the boss. She gets to do everything first and only after her can anyone eat or play with a toy or have a chew bone. Kelsey is an exception. She and Kelsey have loved each other nearly from the first minute they met. She isn't mean to Kelsey, ever. She and Kelsey lick each other in the face and lie close to each other nearly all the time. Sasha has slowed down a lot since she suffered a slipped disk in her back over a year ago. She's fully recovered, but we're more careful about helping her up and down steps and on and off the bed and sofa. She loves the beach and I hope we get to watch her swim a lot more.
