Arrival Story: My husband and I knew that it was time for a dog in our home. We had moved out to the country and wanted a new bundle of love to share it with. There are many rescue and adoption organizations in our community, so I started cruising the websites. Isn't it true that when you see your doggy soulmate, you just know. When we saw the photo of Holly, we KNEW. We went to visit her at her foster home and she was the cutest, sweetest little thing (8 weeks) with the biggest feet. Size was never a problem. We were told that her mother was a Catahoula Leopard dog??? We've since learned a lot about them. What a wonderful, smart dog. We took her home and began a full blown love affair with our 'Houla honey.
Bio: We can't believe some of the quirky traits that these 'houlas have. Their ability to hold things with their toes is just one of many.
And smart...we see her doing things that I've never seen other dogs do.
But, the greatest thing is her complete loving nature. To everything and everyone. She was leaving "puppies" once and a skittish newcomer foster dog was coming into the facility. When we gave Holly 2 cookies, she dropped one in front of the other dog. She likes to share, even her bones and toys.
With small children, she will approach them on her belly or side so that she doesn't frighten them and has never shown an ounce of aggression towards any other dog.
My husband and I feel so blessed to have been chosen to be the parents of this wonderful, sweet dog.

I've Been On Dogster Since:
1. I was born with a pure black muzzle, but I'm only 4 and it's turned all grey already.
2. I learned how to dance by playing with our budgies Spike, Spud and Stuie.
3. I'm pretty sneaky. I can fool Mom and Dad and definitely Matti. If Matti has a chewy I want, I will tell Mommy that I need to go out and as soon as Matti gets up to go - I grab the chewy and lay down with it. It works for getting the chair or the couch, too.
4. I prefer not to poop in my own yard.
5. Even though I'm a real girly girl, people think I'm a boy because I have a really deep bark and I'm bigger than Matti.
6. I have a really sensitive belly. It doesn't take much to make me sick to my stomach. Mommy gives me Pepto bismol to make me feel better (the pills).
7. When I run up to you and put my nose in your crotch, I'm not sniffing you; I'm putting myself in the perfect position for you to give me a back scratch.
Well, I'm 4 years old today so I guess that I'm not a puppy anymore. Matti says that you're as old as you feel and you can be a puppy forever if you want to. He's almost 2 and he still acts like a baby. It just feels that the older I get, the more responsibility I have. I've got to look out for the house and Mommy and Daddy and now a little brother, too. I'm Guard Dog. But, I guess that there is still some time to be a puppy. Matti and I still run all over the house and wrestle; and i still cuddle with Mommy and Daddy when I can. I guess 4 isn't so old yet.
Not too much new in my life. Mommy and Daddy have gone crazy with new cars. Mommy got a RAV4 that's pretty cool because it's got lots of room for us in it, but she put a cage behind the front seat. She says that it's to keep us safe if there's an accident, but I think that she's just sick of Matti trying to sit in the front seat on her when she's driving.
Daddy got a new truck. Well, it' s not really new - seems pretty old to me and it kind of smells funny. There's only one seat in it so I don't see how he's gonna be able to drive us anywhere. I think he better take it back.
Grandma's coming to visit in a week or so. We haven't seen her since she visited when Matti came to live with us. Grandma's pretty cool and she can let us out to play all day. We'll have fun.
Well, i gotta go, my friends. Thanks to all for the great birthday wishes - be happy and play hard. Puppy forever!!
I think it is so funny - Matti is starting to get some white hairs coming in on his chin. He used to laugh at me because he said I was "prematurely grey". He calls me Old Lady. Well, Ha! Matti. Nyahh, nyahh!
I sure am getting mushy these days. Now, I don't want to take anything away from Matti, but he seems to get more then his fair share of attention. I mean, I understand that he's a special case and all with his background and scaredy dog ways, but enough is enough, brother. Before you, I got all of the attention and I just want to reclaim some of what's mine. I'm going to sleep next to Mommy now and Matti can sleep by her feet. Then I get first morning rub-downs. And Matti - you can roll over on your back all you want, but people really don't want to see your peepee all of the time.
I grouse a bit (woman's perogative) but I do so love my little brother. Life was so dull before him. We still have a great time playing and chewing together and talking to the dogs that walk by. It's like we're litter mates and the world is new again. Listen to me - all maudlin...
Well, I'm going to sign off for now. We've been playing pretty hard lately and us "old ladies" need our beauty sleep. Matti's got more energy so he can be guard dog today and wake me if he needs me. The couch beckons...
