Arrival Story:
He was named "Atlas" by those of us trying to rescue him. We (on a GSD rescue board) decided no dog should die without the honor of being named. He looked as if he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. To me, he looked like he was praying for final peace from that terrible place he was sent to die. I can never forget you, dear Atlas. I often weep for hours looking at your photo. How scared & betrayed you must have felt. Why was I sent here? Wasn't I a good boy? I can only wish that you have found peace at the Rainbow Bridge. You now frolic with Angels.

Bio:
Atlas was killed at Spaulding Co. pound in Griffin, GA.. They said he wouldn't look up - like he'd LOST hope. He was misevaluated by an untrainted eye that claimed he was "not friendly & unadoptable". How could that person tell anything about Atlas? How much times did she give Atlas? The pound staff said he wasn't mean..... he just wasn't, well, anything. Going on that info, we decided that he needed a chance. No one has ever seen a photo of a dog like Atlas. This was the one & only photo of him. This was not posed but just one of the most pitiful sights we had ever seen. I s We (from all around the U.S.) worked thru the late night trying to save this poor soul. We could not get to him in time The pound staff took the word of the untrained eval person. He died the early the next morning He was killed via the GAS CHAMBER - YES... the very same as the Nazi death Camps. Just recently, there's been some headway in another GA county... http://network.bestfriends.org/ani mallawcoalition/news/13473.html please help... GASSING is a TERRIBLE way to die...... ***WARNING - very graphic: http://apbtrr.tripod.com/thedavids oncountyncanimalshelterintothekill box/id8.html **please pass his story along so he did not die in vain** I love you Atlas
