Arrival Story: Shadow has been my constant companion since 7 weeks of age. My older white Shepherd, Brandy, was 13 at the time and became Mom overnite to her new black ball of fluff. Brandy passed a year later, after doing a magnificent job of preparing & teaching Shadow to be the fine gentleman he is. We miss her!

Bio: Shadow saved my life 2 years ago (Jan of 04) by dragging me from the bathroom back to my dropped cell phone in the living room. I was weak and unable to get up after several days of what I thought to be the flu or food poisoning. I put my arms around his neck and told him "you need to help me - go inside" - he dragged me to my cell phone and I called 911; within hours had emergency surgery for a ruptured colon. Shadow was only two (2/13/02); have no idea how he knew what 'go inside' meant or how he knew to help me to the phone. The depth of our bond is something I've never experienced before and I've been blessed to always have animals in my life. Shadow's one very smart, handsome guy; can't imagine a day without him. He has talents I know I have yet to discover! MY FAVORITE FELLA!
"The Vegas Dog" publication, Summer 2005 issue, carried Shadow's story. The May 2007 issue of Clark County Bar Association's magazine, COMMUNIQUE' has a story of local Las Vegas attorneys who assist seniors with service dog information. Shadow is featured in story and pix. And now Shadow was just honored on Dogster as dog of the week (Oct 07); the outpouring of congratulations is so very heartwarming for a hero who definitely deserves all the recognition; he's AWESOME!
Check out his diary; Shadow my hero did it again!!! not me this time.
October 2010: Shadow has been diagnosed with an eye disease, Chronic Superficial Keratitis/Pannus, and is being treated accordingly after ophthamologist's exam. German Shepherds have a higher incidence of pannus; be aware of any unusual mucus discharge or redness; the corneal disease is treatable; eye drops will be given for the remainder of his days for control.

Shadow underwent surgery to repair a 'blown' rear left knee injury sustained when leaping for a ball VERY hi and coming down badly; presently recovering, will require additional surgical corrections most likely in May. His 8th birthday was days before. What a magnificent patient!
I've just been advised, to my complete astonishment, that Shadow may very well be a breed known as King German Shepherd or just King Shepherd, bred since 1990. It certainly would answer a lot of questions. I do not have papers or ANY documentation for Shadow; he was a rush rush, out of the ordinary, wonderful acquistion from the owners of mom/dad at 7 weeks... (no contact available.)

The morning started w/a bang! My young neighbor collapsed by her front door while holding her 6 month in her arms. She'd slid down the wall & was 'sitting' with her legs stretched out in front of her, just this side of consciousness. She was calling me, barely audible or coherent...I was at the far end of my home (our front doors face each other).
Shadow started barking (not his "hi Chris or other family member" - it was urgent. He then came into the room barking, and pushed his nose under my right arm (never done that b4, always respected my space); he was making sure I went w/him. Bottom line, paramedics ultimately treated Chris; she'll be fine. Chalk up another one for my hero Shadow! WOW!! Gives me chills.....!
