Arrival Story:
Tanner had been captured by the local dog pound, so his life on earth was coming to an end. The pound had setup their truck outside a local restaurant where we were eating...so naturally we just HAD to stop by for a look. Tanner basically picked us by putting his paws through the cage & scratching at our arms. He wanted love & attention, and would not let us pass by without getting it. We decided to take the night to think about it & if he was there the next day, we would adopt him. Sure enough, he was. I took him out of the cage & played with him. We had to leave him one more night so he could be neutered (ouch). He seemed so sad to be put back in the cage, it was as if he'd finally given up on finding a home. The next day, he was pretty drugged up so he was falling down & swaying all over the place. All I could do was laugh - and when he managed to jump on the bed & lay on my pillow, I knew he realized he was finally "home".

Bio:
You can take the dog out of the streets, but you can't take the street out of the dog...this is so true about Tanner. He has that urge to roam & see what the world is all about. However, he doesn't tell time very well & will stay gone for hours running through the woods & creeks behind our home. We have to walk him on the leash to keep him from running off - which he just can not stand - but he knows that is the only way he'll get to go outside. When it's time to go outside, he'll grab his leash & bring it to us. If we ingore him, he'll toss it at us & start "talking" until someone pays him some attention. His needs WILL be met, or no one will receive any peace.

The Life of a Spoiled Dog

My first encounter with a squirrel...

One of my favorite things to do is chase squirrel, and bark at them when they are eating all the bird feed. My mommy gets really upset when they steal the bird's food because she loves to watch them.

Anyway, one of those snooty outside cats caught one. It had a torn ear, some puncture wounds on the side of it's neck & a hole in it's head. Daddy & mommy brought it in the house to clean it up, and then they hoped to turn it over to wildlife rescue.

They let me sniff the squirrel, and my bottom lip went to quivering because I really wanted to eat it, but it didn't seem right because momma was being so gentle with it. The squirrel must have had internal injuries that were pretty bad (whatever that means - I just hear momma say it), because the little guy didn't live very long.

Momma was MAD at those cats & threatened to drown 'em all - but daddy reminded her that that is what cats do...so she agreed to let them live. Personally, I wished she would run them all off because they think they are better than dogs & I have no use for them.

Is my mommy & daddy insane?

They must be. Daddy brought a baby ferret home for mommy, and that thing has taken over the house. Mommy says he is the cutest thing, but she must be blind, but that is MY TITLE.

That ferret steals all my rubber toys & hides them. If he would play with them & bring them back, I wouldn't mind so much that they smell like a ferret - but he just hides them. One of these days when mommy isn't looking, I'm going to put my paw on him & hold him down until he says "uncle".

Secretly, I try to play with him, but whenever mommy & daddy are looking, I show him my teeth so he'll know whose boss in this house!

I hope I get a new toy for Christmas, one that little critter can't carry.

The day the squirrel went berserk...

My alltime favorite activity is to watch & chase squirrels. Has always been this way & always will be this way. Friday night, daddy came in with something in his arm. He was trying to be all secretive about it - cause I heard him whispering to sister about it. Sister has a big mouth & started talking out loud. That was all mommy needed to know something was up.

My cat brother had captured a baby flying squirrel & daddy rescrued him from the jaws of that ferocious cat LOL. That cat only wishes he was ferocious. Mommy thought that squirrel was a goner because he wasn't moving - but I knew he was just in shock. After about 15 minutes, the squirrel started moving around, through his head back, started squealing & bit mom's thumb. That squirrel latched onto mommy's thumb like a snake & wouldn't let. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen - but I don't know mommy was screaming & not laughing. That little booger poked a hole in mom's thumb.

Eventually he calmed down - and mommy was able to check him out for wounds. All he had was cat slobber - and not one bite or scratch. I guess the cat was playing with his food.

Mom was afraid to put him back outside because it's been raining all weekend. So, he's been in the house in a makeshift haibitat. He got out yesterday & started going all over the house. I know mommy says it's a squirrel, but it don't look like no squirrel I've ever seen. Okay, that wasn't good grammar - but I'm frustrated. I wanted a squirrel that I could chase, and that little runt looking thing tried to jump on me. And when did squirrel start flying? They don't have wings - so that is just stupid!

Mommy did buy me a new "duck" this weekend to chew on. It doesn't look like my old duck - it looks more like a raccoon or something - but mommy calls it a duck so I'll let her just keep on thinking that. It squeaks - so I'm happy.
