Best Tricks:
Waking up, looking innocent

Arrival Story:
When I decided to get a Golden retriever, the usual abundant supply of them around this area suddenly dried up and there were none to be found. I found an outdated newspaper ad, and on a whim and a prayer, I called. There was one puppy who had been returned! He was tentatively being held for someone else who wanted to look at him. I thanked the lady and left it up to God. That night there was a message on my answering machine when I got home. After I had commented that the decision was ultimately God's, she had known in her heart that the puppy belonged with me. She had called the other people and they had agreed to give me first chance. She dropped Moses off the next morning while she went shopping, and he actually seemed to recognize me! He bounced in and took over and never looked back. He belonged with me and Avia and he seemed to know it.

Moses was like a giant stuffed toy. He wanted only to please and his lower lip would quiver if he thought he'd done something bad. He was the epitome of the word "Golden". A quiet, loyal companion, a sweet, funny friend. Moses took a jump from our bed and his feet slipped and he crashed to the hardwood floor. Suspecting possible internal injuries when Moses became severely ill a few days later, he was taken to the vet for tests. He was at the vet hospital undergoing tests and IV support, and was to undergo exploratory surgery once his condition was stabilized. Unfortunately, however, Moses slipped into a coma and died on May 5, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. Tests seemed to indicate a rapidly growing tumor in his biliary tract. Moses is now gone, but his giant pawprints are indeliby etched on our hearts. I wish I could fondle his ear one more time, or toss him the ball. My biggest wish is that I could take him for one last swim and enjoy watching him as he swims back and forth in total bliss. My Golden boy, I can't believe you won't greet me when I come home from work with that gently waving tail and that sweet, smiling expression on your face. You were loved much, Moses, but you loved 100 times more in return. *Update: A littermate sister of Moses' suddenly stopped eating. Initial vet exam was fairly normal, but 2 days later she was deteriorating, so her owner brought her back to the vet. Exploratory surgery confirmed that she had massive cancer involvement of her liver, pancreas, stomach, and lymph nodes. Her onset of illness and her course were identical to Moses, both dogs dying within a week of the onset of symptoms.

Arrival Story:
I rescued Flicka from a dark stinking bug infested Hell Hole. I had recently married a lovely American gent and come to live in the U.S. I had had the best girl in all the world in the UK... my Cleo. She was a black German Shepherd. She had died 18mths before I came here. Once I was here I was desperate for a dog and only lasted being here 2 mths before I found Flicka ! He was around 16wks old when he came into my life.

Flicka is very protective of me. He takes a while to get used to new people.. but once he does he loves them dearly. He takes to women better than men. We are working on his problems with people. He is such a loving soul with his ''family''. He loves to play in the water and recently introduced his little brother Lucas to the Lake !

My Tail of Devotion for MOSES - IN LOVING MEMORY

Dear Moses,
"They say memories are golden"..... You, my sweet boy, were golden through and through. Sweet, loyal, with a heart as big as the great outdoors. You were always there for me, always loved me best, always stayed by me, always stayed true to me. I can't believe your life ended so prematurely and so abruptly. I can't believe that you aren't there to greet me after a hard day with that gently waving tail and that smile on your face. Two black dogs remain to greet me, but my eyes still search for "the golden one". They always will. How I long for my furry golden "pillow" when I watch t.v. after everyone else has gone to bed and left me alone. Not you, my Moses, you never left me alone, you always stayed near me. How I wish I could fondle your ear once more. How I wish I could watch you swim one more time with that look of sheer ecstacy on your face. I long to see that funny curled lip when you wondered if we were going to share whatever it was we were eating. It always made us laugh. I will never stop missing you, Moses. You loved much. You were much loved.

This is a special Tail of Devotion

Mommy adopted me to keep Avia, an old Siberian, company. She was sad when her soulmate, Bodie, died. I cheered her up and kept her busy. But then she left me and I was all alone for awhile with Mom (well, with my feline brothers, but do they count?) I liked being an only child, canine-wise. Mom and I had great times playing games and going for walks. She used me for her pillow at night and when she was watching t.v. She still likes to use me for a pillow when she watches movies at night.

I was a very good dog and Mom never had to holler at me. Then Daddy's
furkid Daisy moved in with us. She tried to chew on my toys and she horned in on our walks. But Daisy and I became best of friends. We had great games of tug of war and we got along really well and I loved her. Then she left me too. That was so sad. But Mommy and Daddy said I was a wonderful big brother - so they adopted Alley.

Alley bounced in here and wouldn't let me play with my toys, Alley chewed on my ears and pulled my tail. Sometimes I just had to try to discipline her a little bit so I would growl. Mom had never heard me growl before, so she got upset with me for doing it. Mom never got upset with me, until Alley came. I like Alley though. She finally grew to be more my size, but she likes to play a little too rough. She likes to steal things from Mom and Dad. I normally just hide under the table and watch. I don't like doing bad things and making Mom upset. I just want to make Mom happy. One day Alley talked me into helping her steal a bag of flour. Dad caught us with flour all over us! Another time she talked me into stealing a bag of potato chips. I was the one that got caught eating them. Sigh. Alley is trouble for me with a capital T!

Then they adopted this little rat called Boomer. He is only 10#. How can anything so small be so bossy? I'm afraid of him! He won't even let me eat in peace. He's so little that sometimes I step on him or sit on him by accident and he squeals and gets me in trouble. I'm not sure if I like being a big brother!!!
