Arrival Story:
When I was pregnant with my daughter, my partner and I were living in an upstairs flat with our girl Chevy. We didnt have a yard at all (I had already had Chevy before we moved into this flat). Anyway one day while the partner was at work I was reading the newspaper and it had an ad for $20 staffy cross puppies. I rang the number and the lady told me the colours...saying there was a gold and white coloured one. When my partner got home from work we had nothing to do so I said to him lets go and look at the puppies. He said no as we werent in the right type of house to have one dog let alone 2. I said I promise we wont get one well just have a look. He agreed as he was bored. We eventually got to the house and I saw the gold and white one (actually red and white). He had an extremely fat belly and short little legs as did the rest of the litter. The mother was very scabby looking and her spine stuck out about an inch above her ribs (I was sickened at the owners for not looking after a nursing dog properly- but did notice she was happy and friendly). My partner asked me if I wanted the red and white puppy. I said it was up to him. 15 minutes later we went back to the house after going to a cash machine to withdraw the $20 and we went home with our new baby. He was riddled with worms and fleas, had an umbilical hernia and suffered from seperation anxiety. Being the only pup of his colouring in a litter of brindles he had been the fave of the 4 children at the house and the only pup who ever got any attention. His anxiety was so bad that he would fall asleep next to you on the couch and if you got up the second you stood up he would start screaming his little tiny head off. Eventually after about 6 months we managed to break this habit out of him...by now we had also moved to a house with a large fenced yard which was lucky because he was a runner. By the time he was 6 months old we also found out he was a jumper, and extremely good at it. Unfortunately even though he was only knee height it turned out that we never ever found a fence high enough to contain him and the poor bugger had to be chained up if noone was out in the back yard with him. This dog was soooo annoying, I am not kidding. Always had to be in your face, and I mean right in your face, climbing onto your lap and sticking his face right in yours. He would climb onto your shoulders just to get close to oyur face. He would never ever sit still. When he was inside he would lay down for about 3 seconds then he would be up, lay down, up and it would go on and on and on. His tail never ever stopped wagging, he would chase a ball forever, you would be able to see he was getting too tired but as long as you threw it he would go get it. My partner and I can remember thinking when he was about 1 that being so energetic he woud probably not live long due to burning himself out...it was a joke because he was soooo hypo...unfortunately we were to be proved right. Although this dog was the most annoying dog ever, he was the best and had personality and character galore and even now 1 and a half years after his death I cant look at a picture of him without feeling like crying and I miss him just as bad as I did the day he left us. Love ya pup.
