Arrival Story:
Found her in the paper as a free dog - went to the home where there was an old-old black lab female and an old english bulldog. Baby was the first to the gate. The old guy at the house just picked her up by her scruff and passed her over to us without a word. He turned and walked away immediately. What a jerk!! On the ride home Baby threw up in my lap - knew we were a family at that moment. Brought her into the house - she had never seen/felt carpet and watched her "swim" for about an hour on it... best "Free" ad ever!!

Almost two years ago Baby started to "bump" into things. We took her to the vet and he refered us to a specialist. We found out from them that she had SARDs (Sudden Aquired Retina Degeneration) - basically she went blind overnight. After crying for a week and finding out there was no nerve damage - no tumors that had caused it, she was blind not terminal. We decided to make things as comfortable for Baby and learn from her what else we could do. She has taught us great patience and to not give up. She gets around the house fine, we have pillows everywhere for her to bump into. Her arthritis is geting worse in her back legs - she goes for chiropractic massage every 3 weeks which has helped immensley. She was a smart, yet stubborn pup and created alot of havoc in our lives - but alot of laughter also. We cherish every day we have with her. Today, September 26, 2006, Baby said it was time to go to Heavens gate, check it out and wait for us. We will miss her immensly. When she passed she went over like a true lady - snoring the whole way.

And we still miss you so much. Mom is working on a tattoo with you, Boomer and Turner. We talk about you all the time. Laugh about how you grandfather was visiting in FL when you were a pup. You walked by him while he was eating breakfast. He tripped your back legs. You stopped and looked at him, he was eating and looking away. But you knew, you cocked your head and knew he tripped you!!

Then we laughed about how no matter what time it was if you heard the refridgerator door open you would appear. Your grandma said that if you were coming to visit she would fill both of your ears with stories!! What a great listener you were!!

Your dad and I smile every time we think about you as a pup running back and forth through the same puddle - laughing the whole time!! I've never knew a dog could smile and laugh until that moment!

We talked about how you were like the Charlie Brown cartoon where Snoopy is sitting calmly, the next frame his ears go straight up, the next frame he's sitting infront of Charlie Brown who states, " You're the only dog who can hear a marshmallow crunch!!" It was so true!! Even blind you knew where and who had food!!

Baby, once again, thank you for 13 wonderful years!! You were truly our angel!!

Love to you!!

Mom, Dad, Boomer - in heaven and Turner
