Daddy found a kitty...

There were some bad thunderstorms at my house yesterday. After they were over, Daddy let Charley & Hank outside and he discovered a poor kitty down by the fence. The poor thing was soaked to the bone. And so frightened. He looked like he had been swept through the storm drain and into the lake behind our house! Dad made Charley & Hank leave it alone while he decided what to do. The kitty finally made its way to the sunporch and wanted to come inside the house! Mom & Dad are both allergic to cats so they couldn't let him inside.

They think he has been declawed so they put him in a dog crate and kept him on the sunporch. They couldn't turn him loose if he can't defend himself. Mom is calling him 'PK' for Poor Kitty - he definitely had a bad day yesterday!

Mom has seen some 'lost cat' posters in the neighborhood so she's off to check them out. Since PK has been declawed and is so affectionate, he's got to belong to somebody!

I hope she finds his family. I know what it's like to be lost...

Update: Mom didn't have any luck so she had to call A/C. The officer said there had been some inquiries about gray cats so hopefully they will find PK's family soon. She really didn't want to call them but she can't keep a kitty with her allergies. I hope they find his family soon.

From Rags to Riches...

Hello, everyone. My name is Griffin and I now reside at the Rainbow Bridge. It's a pretty swell place and I don't mind being here until it's time for me to be reunited with my family. Oh sure, I'd MUCH rather be at home putting up with Charley's antics and having my mommy and daddy telling me how much they love me and giving me good food to eat. But that's not the way it worked out for me.

I don't know what happened to my original family but apparently they didn't want me any more because they moved out of our house and I was left to fend for myself. I must have wandered for a while because I lived in Virginia Beach and was picked up in Norfolk by Animal Control. Then I went to a place called Norfolk Animal Management. There were some nice people there but I was still scared. Every time they gave me something to eat, I threw up. Even though there were some nice people there, I didn't like it there because I was scared. Nobody knew it but I couldn't hear. I am not sure what made me go deaf. It could have been lack of medical care. Someone told my new mommy that dogs with white coats go deaf a lot. I also had a lot of health problems that nobody knew about. The worst was a bad case of heartworms.

A nice lady at Animal Management told my mommy and daddy about me. They were looking for another dog to keep their dog (Charley) company and wanted to adopt instead of buying from a breeder. The next day my daddy came to see me. I just knew he'd give me a good home so I tried my best to make a good impression. He didn't take me then because mommy wasn't there and he wanted her to see me. She was at work and couldn't come to the shelter and she told daddy that if he thought I was good dog, he could bring me home. I must have made a good impression because after lunch, my new daddy came to take me away from that sad place! Hooray!

I was a little scared at first but somehow I knew everything would be OK. I had been throwing up so much that they told him to take me to the vet. We went straight there before going home. That's when we got the bad news: Heartworms. The people at Animal Management said they could bring me back if I was real sick (I think I know what would have happened if they did that) but daddy said he wasn't going to do that. I was part of the family now and just needed to get well. My new vet, Dr. Neering, who is the best vet in the whole world, decided to treat the parasites and infections first. Then once they were all cleared up, we'd begin heartworm treatment. Once I got started on some medicine and eating decent food (for a change) I started to feel lots better! Only I got tired real fast because of the heartworms. We started treatment for them before Christmas and after 2 rounds of treatment and lots of rest, I was finally heartworm free! I could now go for walks with Charley, mommy and daddy and even go to the dog park! I kept to myself there but enjoyed all the new smells that were there. I had never been socialized so I really didn't know how to play. Mostly I just sniffed stuff and people and let them pat me on the head. I couldn't hear what they were saying to me, I was deaf after all, but I could tell that they liked me because they were smiling.

I was so lucky! I had a new home where people loved me and looked after me. And a new brother to play with and try to keep out of trouble. Charley was a wild pup but I loved him. I still do, I just have to keep an eye on him from Rainbow Bridge. I only got to live with my new family for about a year and a half. Oh, but that was the BEST time in my whole life! I finally had someone to love who loved me back! What more could a dog ask for?

Sadly, I developed a tumor on my liver, adrenal glands and vena cava. It was a fast growing tumor and surgery wasn't an option. My mommy and daddy cried a lot but they didn't let me suffer. I let them know when it was time and we said our 'so-longs'. Then I came to The Bridge. I keep an eye on them still, especially Charley- he needs another pair of eyes watching him! I know I'll get to see them all again one day but for now, The Bridge is where I live.

I am just so happy that they found me :)
