Arrival Story:
Midknight was left at the Humane Society by a family who said they were moving and could not take him with them. Another family adopted him and kept him for 10 days. On his profile, the 2nd family said he chewed destructively. We decided to adopt him and he has been the most wonderful dog ever. Her has now been with us since July 1997.

Bio:
In January we almost lost Midknight. He woke us in the early morning hours was stressed and panting. We realized he wasn't able to get up and all he could do was drag himself with his front paws. After seeing his Vet in the morning he was referred to a local Veterinary hospital. By the time we got him there he was rigid and his eyes were flicking back and forth and he could not concentrate. By the next day he had not improved with Steroids and Valium and we were faced with the possibility we would have to put him to sleep. We were very fortunate to have a different Vet care for him that morning and she decided to to a Lyme test. The results were positive and within 6 hours after receiving his first dose of antibiotic he began to show signs of improving. 4 days later we took him home and with some TLC from his family he had a full recovery.

Sadness and Sorrow

On January 9, 2009 Midknight had to be euthanized. His health was failing over the past 4-6 months and it became impossible for him to walk up steps without assistance for the past 2 months. He had been in pain for about a year and we tried many remedies to help him to have a better life with less pain. Unfortunately his back legs became very weak and he was losing considerable weight. My 29 year old daughter visited for a week and he seemed to rally while she was here. The evening after she left he laid on his bed and never got up after that point. The next morning he wasn't able to eat or drink and lost control of his bowels and bladder. We had just celebrated his 13th birthday the night before and had to make the heart wrenching decision to put him to sleep. As I write, it reminds me of the wonderful times we had with him. It also brings tears to my eyes and makes my heart ache because he is no longer with us. His buddy Java is still a big part of our family and it is sad to see him with out Midknight. They spent so much time together, and played many hours with each other which brought much joy to us.
Enjoy all the time you have with your dog. It passes quickly.
