Arrival Story:
Butchie's prior person took her sky-diving. (They did everything together.) While the 2-year-old poodle survived the experience quite well (she thought everyone did crazy stuff like that), the 70-year-old human did not fare as well; she became aware of a cardiac condition and had to make some major changes in her life ... meanwhile, I was looking for a little dog, had a motorcycle but no car, and everyone I talked to about potential adoption said 'No way' ... but Butchie's person said 'Hmm ... You might just be the one!' Butch and I have been happily glommed onto each other since. That was 8 years ago.

Butch had her spine fractured, her ribs smashed, and was lucky to escape with her life (her sister Cassidy did not fare so well) when a big dog came into our yard and shook her like a rag toy. She was temporarily paralyzed, but her poodle spirit kept right on, straight ahead. She has amazed everyone who witnesses her recovery - including our vet - with her spirit and pure determination. I thought I would be adjusting to life with a dog on wheels, but 3 years later, I have a dog that isn't much different from the dog I had before. I try to be more like her every day because she is the strongest, most spirited, positive person I've ever met - in a dog suit or otherwise. (Update) Butch lived a very happy 8 more years after the mauling. She never looked back, she loved life and lived each day to its fullest. My goal in life is to be just like her!

Forums Motto:
She's a toy, curly rottweiler.
